Polka: Purveyor of Dots (Widescreen)

Polka, the eccentric visionary designer who introduced the world to the polka dot, finds her legacy in jeopardy when dots are declared ‘dead’ by the industry digest. She must evolve to survive, but breaking free of her circular empire is no simple task. To prevail, she must rise above all that she knows and see the world from a different point of view. A collaboration of love by Sky Pie Studio & Refinery 43. ——— More About The Project: This film was born out of a shared interest to investigate the creative process with the design team at Refinery 43. Our aim was to explore the hazy origins of an idea, and the trials and tribulations that one must endure to find out what’s on the other side. We were expecting to make a process film. In a case of life imitating art, we instead ended up making a pink-fringed tale of polka dots. Ultimately Polka’s journey has very little to do with the pattern that vexes her, she must push past her own narrow world views and envision another world altogether. Or as the Lorax puts it, “It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become”. ——— — CREDITS — WRITER & DIRECTOR: Daniel Castro at Sky Pie Studio GRAPHIC DESIGN : Kelsy Stromski at Refinery 43 DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY : Evan Jake Cohen ORIGINAL SCORE: Joel Pickard SET DESIGNER: Espen Oydvin ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: Boris Ebzeev ART DEPARTMENT: Katherine Yaksich | STARRING | Melody Vargas as Polka Ruby June as Dottie David Imani as Seymour | CREW | 1ST ASSISTANT CAMERA: Brandon Regina 2ND ASSISTANT CAMERA: Nicolas Vasquez KEY GRIP: Jordan Allen Bell GAFFER: Andrew Cohen | POST | EDITOR: Noah Benezra at Rock Paper Scissors COMPOSITOR: Harry Tuman at Rock Paper Scissors COLORIST: Kath Raisch at Company 3 | PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS | Crystal Lam Catherine Haag Zack Ahern Shakil Uddin | SPECIAL THANKS | Acme Studio Rock Paper Scissors Aaron Tompkins Jenny Greenfield Julia Perissinoto Marc Olivier Le Blanc Reuben Hernandez Wes Anderson Dr. Seuss
