edifice

Edifice is about relationships built very much like a house. Isolated forms bend, flow and connect to create a unified mass. A structure that shelters and nurtures those within. Directed, shot and edited by Rogerio Silva Choreographed and performed by Carmine De Amicis and Harriet Waghorn Music by Alaskan Tapes “Then Suddenly, Everything Changed” Carmine and Harriet set out to explore a hybrid approach to Latin American dance and Contact Improvisation. The goal was to create devices and qualities to establish a singular body dialogue, starting with the connection principles of both those dances. Together they developed the hybrid partnering language that informed the choreographic process and aimed to explore themes like blurred and permeable boundaries, migration and integration, intuition and growth. As I watched the rehearsals, I was taken with the honesty of the movement and how Carmine and Harriet supported each other equally throughout. There were no gender roles and I liked that they could reverse their roles and everything would still work. I approached the shoot with this in mind and tried to capture the piece in a way that shows both their weaknesses and strengths equally.
