Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) reveals his first look as an anti-hero in ‘Black Adam’

Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) has finally released the first look at what he will look like as the DC Comics anti-hero of Black Adam. The movie has been under development for a long time now but finally, the production schedule has been revealed.

Johnson also expressed his excitement of being part of the DC Comics project in the caption of this post.  He wrote, “Like most kids growing up, I dreamed about being a superhero. Having cool superpowers, fighting for what’s right and always protecting the people,” Johnson wrote in the post. “It all changed for me, when I was 10 yrs old and was first introduced to the greatest superhero of all time – SUPERMAN. As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be. But, a few years into my fantasy, I realized that Superman was the hero, I could never be. I was too rebellious. Too rambunctious. Too resistant to convention and authority. Despite my troubles, I was still a good kid with a good heart – I just liked to do things my way. Now, years later as a man, with the same DNA I had as a kid – my superhero dreams have come true. I’m honored to join the iconic #DCUniverse and it’s a true pleasure to become, BLACK ADAM.”

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Shallows), Black Adam is the third DC movie currently scheduled for 2021. The others are Matt Reeves’ The Batman (25 June), and The Suicide Squad (6 August) from director James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy).

‘Panda and Krash’ and the third season ‘BabyRiki’ will be aired on Gloobinho channel in Brazil

The Brazilian media holding Gloob has acquired the rights to broadcast the third season of BabyRiki, 20 episodes of BabyRiki Sing and Dance! nursery rhymes, produced by Riki Group, and Panda and Krash animated TV series, the first Russian-Chinese co-production in animation of Riki Group and CCTV Animation, for its pre-school channel Gloobinho. 

The deal was signed through distribution company Imira Entertainment who handles rights for the titles in the region. The first season of BabyRiki have already been released on the Gloobinho channel in Brazilian Portuguese since July 2018. Grupo Gloob is the leader in pay television in Brazil. Gloobinho channel was created by the Grupo Globo  in 2017 for a preschool audience from 2 to 5 years old. The channel broadcasts both Brazilian and international programs and series created considering the needs of the youngest audience. 

BabyRiki is an animated program with content that covers all aspects of a child’s life. From physical wellbeing to cognitive and soft skills, the musical stories are based around age-appropriate experiences with educational concepts introduced in familiar surroundings and context for infants.

Panda and Krash follows the adventures of an impulsive little Rabbit and a loyal Panda, as they come to life in a toy store embarking on adventures with friends.

Gloob is the first and biggest national channel for Kids in Brazil, currently achieving third place in a competitive market with valuable international players present for over 20 years. Operated by Globosat, Brazil’s biggest audiovisual content provider, Gloob also belongs to Globo Group, the most relevant entertainment company in Latin America and market leader in Brazil. The channel was launched in 2012 and has a constant and fast-paced evolution, achieving notorious ratings among kids from four to 11 years old.

‘Harley Quinn’ animated series gets a new trailer

DC Comics has released the official trailer for the Harley Quinn original series. In the trailer, Quinn and the Joker get into it while she’s beating up a bunch of goons.

DC Universe animated series called Harley Quinn debuts 29 November. Quinn initially began her life as a foil and love interest for the Joker on Batman: The Animated Series. Harley Quinn will be telling her side of the Joker romance story in the upcoming live-action movie Birds of Prey, set to release on 7 February 2020.

In the new trailer that debuted on Tuesday, Harley Quinn (voiced by The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco) realises the Joker (Alan Tudyk) never loved her, so she breaks up with him and tries to make it on her own as Gotham City’s criminal Queenpin.

She teams up with Poison Ivy to create the ultimate group of bad guys to compete with the Joker, and causes her usual brand of chaos. The new trailer also implies that Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and a few other notable DC Comics superheroes will make an appearance.

The voice cast of Harley Quinn also includes Lake Bell (Wet Hot American Summer) as Poison Ivy; Rahul Kohli (iZombie) as Scarecrow; Sanaa Lathan (The Twilight Zone) as Catwoman; Diedrich Bader (Veep) as Batman; Tony Hale (Arrested Development, Veep) as Doctor Psycho; and Chris Meloni (Happy) as Commissioner Gordon.

Nithya Menen and Shruti Hassan to voice for Elsa in Telegu and Tamil version of ‘Frozen 2’

After Priyanka Chopra Jonas and her Parineeti Chopra were roped in to voice for Elsa and Anna respectively in the Hindi dubbed version of Frozen 2, actor Nithya Menen and Shruti Hassan are brought in to was to lend their voices for Elsa in the Telugu and Tamil dubbed version.

Walt Disney has confirmed the news on social media platforms including Hassan herself. These announcements clearly shows Disney’s intension to extensively invest in the country and its markets.

Frozen 2 is scheduled to hit the screens on 22 November and is the sequel to the bockbuster animated classic Frozen. Princesses Anna and Elsa are the two main characters in the world of Frozen. In the sequel, the sisters are expected to go on an adventurous journey to discover the origins of Elsa’s magical powers and to save their kingdom.

Actors Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell will be reprising their roles for Elsa and Anna respectively from the original film in English.

Supposedly inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Snow Queen, the film has been directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee.

Representation from Canada includes gaming giants such as Kabam Inc, known worldwide for their Marvel the Avengers and Spider man game IP’s, Hyper Hippo Entertainment, a developer and publisher known for its hyper casual game, Adventure Capitalist, AMPD technologies, a technology solution provider for gaming companies expanding across continents. Also present will be Silo Entertainment offering co-production opportunities between Indian & Canadian companies; Launch Academy, a company providing support to international companies that are considering a North American expansion by offering them a soft landing in the market. India Joy will also see representation from Studio X Labs, a B.C. based company that offers dubbing services to animation/film and gaming companies in localised English. They also have a newly developed game funded by the industry agency (CreativeBC).  In addition, DigiBC, British Columbia’s industry association for digital entertainment, encompassing animation, visual effects and gaming, will also be present at the event. This delegation is being supported by Trade and Invest British Columbia, the primary trade and investment promotion agency of the Government of British Columbia in India.

Extolling the importance of the event and discussing their plans, Trade & Invest British Columbia (TAIBC) managing director Rooma Kumar Bussi shared, “The primary objective of companies visiting from British Columbia, Canada is to meet with key stakeholders from the digital entertainment industry including gaming, animation or film. Companies are looking to better understand the opportunities in India and to explore partnerships with Indian companies. They are also keen to explore the potential for expansion of their subscriber/user base and co-production opportunities in India.”

With representation from so many countries, IndiaJoy festival is emerging as a mammoth annual event in the AVGC space that offer a vital platform to creators across the M & E sector.

There have been quite a few large announcements in the 3D world lately. Let’s take a glimpse at what is going on in the industry.

Epic Games and Quixel Join Forces

Quixel, makers of Megascans, have announced that they have joined forces with Epic Games. Not only does this create amazing opportunities for Quixel, it makes immediate changes to Megascans users.

Megascans is now free for use with Unreal Engine

The entire Megascans library is now completely free for use with Unreal Engine. UE4 users have free unlimited access to all Megascans through Bridge and Mixer.

If you are already using Megascans with UE4, Quixel will refund all of your subscriptions for 2019.

Megascans subscription prices lowered

Megascans pricing has been cut in half, regardless of DCC, engine, or renderer you use.

Bridge and Mixer 2020 will be 100% free

The upcoming 2020 versions of Bridge and Mixer will be 100% free for everyone, with no subscription required and both fully featured.

Bridge 2020 introduces an improved browsing experience, nearly a hundred new collections, improve search, and powerful filtering.

Quixel has also implemented an AI search feature that finds all the assets in any image you feed it, essentially making environment planning much easier, whether you have real-world references or concept art.

Mixer 2020 introduces 3D Painting, Real-time 3D Curvature, Smart Materials and more. The update also introduces 3D Blur, Grouping, Map-specific Blending, Advanced AO Mixing, Box Projection, Material ID Masking, 3D Position Gradients and 3D Normals to name a few, as another step on the path to making Mixer the ultimate, and now free, texturing app.

The new free Mixer and Bridge 2020 will be released later this year.

At the annual Adobe Max conference in LA, Adobe announced many of their big updates for Creative Cloud and Substance.

Substance 2019 Updates

Substance has it’s own time to shine at Adobe Max during the Substance Day presentations. Here’s what we learned about new features and tools coming to Substance.

Project Captis

Project Captis may be the most exciting announcement for material makers. Substance and HP collaborated on a scanner prototype that would allow anyone to create scanned materials.

Connected to Substance software, Captis will generate PBR materials for 3D rendering based on physical sample.

HP and Adobe will deliver Project Captis to partners across various industries, including game development, ecommerce, architecture and fashion, among others. Project Captis kicks off at Adobe MAX and will run through 2020.

Substance Painter

New in Substance Painter, users can now import their favorite Photoshop brushes.

Starting with the next Substance Painter release, you’ll be able to import and use .ABR brushes in your favorite 3D texturing app. We also announced opacity blending and pressure sensitivity improvements, bringing the painting experience closer than ever to Photoshop’s.

Substance Alchemist

Substance Alchemist is officially out of Beta. It features an improved layer stack, the ability to share projects with other users, and an improved delighter.

The team is also working on a new fully automatic tiling filter, born from the collaboration between Adobe Research and the Substance Alchemist team. Ever used the Content-Aware fill in Photoshop? We now use the same technology to remove seams on the edges of your input image automatically, and soon a full material at once! This new algorithm is faster, doesn’t require any tweaking, and often produce better results than the previous methods.

Sketchfab will also be integrated into Substance. More than 220,000 free models from Sketchfab will be available to download in Substance Painter and Adobe Dimension. There will also be 35 new free characters on Mixamo.

After Effects Updates

For After Effects users, Adobe updated the app for better performance speed. 9 to 5 Mac reports,

You can now expect smooth, fluid playback of cached video previews. A new version of Cinema 4D, bundled with After Effects, can be opened as a standalone application. Caps and bevel tools have been added.
