We were all given a glimpse of the Dwayne Johnson-starrer Rampage that has the former’s primatologist character developing a close bond with an albino gorilla that’s soon under the radar of the Department of the Homeland Security, through a teaser last year.
Loosely based on the video game of the same name by Midway Games, the simian goes on a rampage; wreaking havoc in the city after a genetic experiment goes haywire and ultimately renders the creature gigantic enough to take down a skyscraper with a whip.
In the second official trailer released today, we are greeted with more moments of Davis Okoye (Johnson) and the gorilla warming up to each other that’s also powdered with the star’s cheeky banters, hereby teasing intermittent light-heartedness amid the deadly depredations. However, the albino gorilla soon takes up the role of a Good Samaritan when another humongous monster appears and inflicts mass destruction, causing a face-off between the two.
Helmed by Hydraulx, Scanline VFX and Weta Digital, the latest Rampage clip features new and more breath-taking VFX shots. The sequence featuring both the creatures fighting is as adrenaline-pumping as the catastrophe depicted within the city is gut-wrenching, promising another visual treat in store for the adrenaline junkies.
Hydraulx co-founder Colin Strause, well-known for Alien vs Predator and Skyline series, is the production VFX supervisor.
A Warner Bros. Pictures release, Rampage opens in cinemas on 20 April 2018.

MAAC unveils its 10th centre in Bengaluru, plans to further strengthen its presence in Tier-II cities of Karnataka
Posted in: AnimationMaya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) has announced the launch of its 10th MAAC centre in Bengaluru. The decision to open the new centre on HSR Layout (Hosur-Sarjapur Road Layout), is part of MAAC’s strategy to expand its presence in the Tier-II cities of Karnataka in the next six months.
HSR Layout, a new suburb located in south-east Bengaluru, is also often referred to as the gateway to the IT hub – Electronic City. In addition to ten centres in Bengaluru, the company also has one centre each in Mangalore and Mysuru.
The centre was inaugurated by Emmy Award nominated personality and Technicolor art director Manoj A Menon and Aptech AVP Shajan Samuel.
Commenting on the new centre Samuel said, “With its proximity to the IT Hubs, MAAC HSR will offer students a chance to also engage with the IT industry. With state of the art facilities and the latest 3D animation and visual effects technology that meets international standards, MAAC strive to offer students a comprehensive education in the growing field of 3D Animation and VFX. Our vision is to expand in tier-II cities of Karnataka and we see tremendous potential here. Along with our Bengaluru centers, we plan to open centers in Belgaum, Hubli, Gulbarga, and Shimoga within the next six months. We are constantly trying to better ourselves with each centre by providing a global exposure to the students. These new centers will be an opportunity for all students to achieve superior training with our extensive curriculum.”
Bengaluru is already the hub for animation and VFX in India. Some of the top global companies like DreamWorks Animation, Technicolor, MPC and also some of the very successful Indian studios like Xentrix Studios, Dhruva Interactive, and Moonfrog Labs operate out of here.
MAAC HSR will offer students an opportunity to learn 3D animation, VFX, multimedia, graphic and web designing, from the leading experts of the industry.
A recent report, jointly prepared by KPMG and FICCI, notes that the animation and VFX industry grew by 16.4 per cent in 2016 as compared to the previous year. The animation business is has become a ₹59.5 billion industry. Key factors of growth have been increasing use of VFX in domestic film production and a growing emphasis on growing animation in content by broadcasters. These factors are also expected to grow the animation and VFX sector going forward at upwards of 17 per cent rate. With more and more film-goers hooked to flying humans and stomping monsters, the Indian animation and visual effects (VFX) industry has grown considerably.

AMD has introduced one of the world’s powerful graphics on a desktop processor with the release of two Ryzen desktop processors with built-in Radeo Vega graphics models. Now available, AMD Ryzen 5 – 2400G and AMD Ryzen 3 – 2200G processors combine four of the latest Zen CPU cores with advanced Radeon Vega architecture on a single chip, offering leadership levels of system and graphics performance at their respective $169 and $99 price points.
“When we launched our first Ryzen processors a year ago, we began driving innovation and competition across the PC market. We remain dedicated to this mission throughout 2018, as we further strengthen our Ryzen portfolio by adding two leadership APUs designed to meet the varying needs of today’s PC users,” said AMD computing and graphics business group senior vice president and general manager, Jim Anderson.
“AMD Ryzen Desktop APUs are a perfect example of the innovation we bring to market for consumer and commercial PC users. Combining our high-performance CPU and GPU architectures, this new category of Ryzen desktop processors is designed to deliver a smooth overall computing experience, as well as the ability to enjoy true 1080p HD gaming, eSports or advanced display features through the visual fidelity of the built-in Radeon Vega graphics.”
An advanced feature set further enhances the performance of Ryzen desktop APUs. Improved AMD SenseMI technology enables lower power usage at higher frequencies and reduced memory latencies. The new APUs also supports Precision Boost 2, a multi-core boost algorithm that enables higher frequencies in gaming and real-world applications. And, with their built-in graphics, these new processors are compatible with Radeo FreeSync technology and compatible displays for effortlessly smooth gameplay.
High performance computing
The Ryzen 5 2400G processor delivers:
- The same graphics performance in a single processor as combining the $199 USD Intel Core i5-8400 with an $89 USD NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 discrete gaming GPU
- Up to 156 per cent more graphics performance than the Intel core i5-8400
- Up to 21 per cent more system performance than the Intel core i5-8400
- Up to 39 per cent faster graphics performance when overclocked.
Drop-in compatability
Continuing the commitment to long-term stability with customer experience in mind, Ryzen desktop APUs support the same Socket AM4 infrastructure as Ryzen desktop CPUs. Therefore, the new processors are compatible with the existing AM4 ecosystem of 120+ motherboards, requiring only a simple BIOS update.
Unlocked performance
Like all AMD Ryzen Desktop processors, Ryzen Desktop APUs are unlocked for performance tuning of CPU, DRAM, and GPU settings through the AMD Ryzen Master overclocking utility, to enable even more performance for users who appreciate the freedom to overclock.
Availability
Ryzen Desktop Processors with Radeon Vega Graphics are globally available today through etailers and retailers for use with the wide selection of AM4 motherboards currently in market. OEM systems with Ryzen Desktop Processors with Radeon Vega graphics are expected in market in the coming months.
