VFX rescues Jimmy Shergill’s ‘Veerey Ki Wedding’ by replacing the face of the actress

This is undoubtedly the classic case of how technology saved the day for actor Jimmy Shergill’s upcoming film Veerey Ki Wedding.

‘Veerey Ki Wedding’ initially featured popular actor Jimmy Shergill and Punjabi actress Diljott who was making her Bollywood debut with the film. However she had to leave the movie as a last-ditch attempt to make the project more saleable. Though Jimmy stays on board, actress Diljott will be replaced by telly actress Payal Rajput, best remembered for her outing in the show, Sapnon Se Bhare Naina using VFX.

Replacements are quite common these days in Bollywood and it is costly to re-shoot them hence VFX plays a major role in saving the producer’s pocket. Director Ashu Trikha confirmed that the scenes featuring Diljott, including a lavish song sequence which was shot in Manali, will be superimposed with Rajput’s face via VFX.

The VFX superimposition of faces is a very  useful technique used in movies. In this, the new actor enacts the whole scene with the green screen background in front of the camera. Then the whole footage covering mostly the face is taken and superimposed over the earlier shot scene with another actor who is to be replaced. Then follows an editing process on the computer screen using various VFX methods and software. Various stunt scenes are also done in this manner. You can check the video below showing a clip from the film ‘Braveheart’  for knowing more about this process of superimposition.

The whole incident triggers our memory to the age old debate of man versus machines. The cost incurred in applying VFX is no doubt very economical compared to the  exorbitant fees actors charge these days. Who knows, there might be days in future when actors will have to stop throwing tantrums as well as charging astronomical figures,  if technology replaces them with even better techniques. Then, the VFX supervisor might become the richest  and most powerful person  and the actor just a mute puppet in the whole process.

Decoding the secrets of the Infinity War: Will any Avenger bite the dust?

Whilst the next instalment of the Avengers, Infinity War is still a long way from its release, the ensemble cast of the grandiose superhero flick has already sent a quiver down the spine of its fan-base.

Avengers have now teamed up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to fight against the might of their biggest nemesis yet- Thanos. And anyone would squirm at the imagination of a conglomeration of the entire Marvel cinematic universe into one single film!

But given that, it is quite obvious that not every superhero will come out of the carnage alive and breathing. Someone has to give in. However, the question that now lingers is who is the one?

For starters, the sidekicks such as Heimdall who is the gatekeeper of Bifrost, can be expected to sacrifice himself in his pursuit to thwart Thanos and his army from entering Asgard. Nick Fury, a close companion of the Avengers is also an easy guess since he possesses literally no superpower.

Hank Pym of The Antman and Thaddeus “Thunder “ Ross who is Hulk’s arch-enemy are among the others speculated to lay down their lives in this fierce war.

But coming down to the central characters, Hawkeye is one of the primary suspects. To quote the words of Jeremy Renner himself, “The city is flying and we are fighting an army of robots. And I have a bow and arrows. Nothing makes sense.” Well, the prospect of the sharpshooter going head-to-head against the baddies and surviving in the end also doesn’t make sense.

Given the news that Thor is confirmed for only the first part and not the second hence one can take a wild guess that the God of Thunder too may breathe his last in the upcoming flick. The popularity and frenzy surrounding Chris Hemsworth’s character is enormous and too hard for the filmmakers to ostracise him from the concluding movie. But the fans may have to deal with one of the harshest reality of watching him die after all.

Taking the curiosity quotient up a notch, the rumour mill is rife with Captain America too getting reduced to ashes. With Chris Evans confirming his last outing with Marvel with the second instalment of Infinity War, chances are that the leader of the Avengers may go down while fighting the Mad Titan.

Avengers: Infinity Wars is scheduled to release on 4 May 2018 in India. This would be followed by release of an untitled sequel on 3 May 2019.Looks like there’s a lot in the platter for the all the diehard Avengers fans!

5 things to keep in mind before loosening your wallets during the ‘Steam Summer Sale’

The Steam sale is right around the corner and you might be getting ready to loosen your purse strings but you must also prepare yourself a bit so that you fish out the best deals for yourself.

As soon as the sale goes online, users will be swarming the platform’s store to get the best out of it. However, you should be keeping some things in mind so that you make the best purchases and not regret it later.

Have patience!

As soon as the sale begins and the discounts are revealed, people will be crowding the store to get their hands on the titles. However, you should take your time, decide and then buy as the deals will be there till the end of the sale.

Bundles are the way to go

There will be a lot of bundles from publishers and they add more value to your purchase. Instead of buying just one game, if you can find a bundle which has your desired game and some other titles as well then it is definitely worth buying. Most of these bundles come packed with the additional items like DLCs and updates. However, if you already have some titles from the bundle in your library already, it does not make much sense.

Try ‘Enhanced Steam’

Enhanced Steam is an add-on extension to your browser. This assists you with price comparisons, showcases best deals and much more.

Keep an eye on the highlights

Keep an eye on the daily highlights about the sale on Steam. The section updates daily and more or less showcases the best deals that you can avail. Mostly, these are titles from famed publishers or fan-favourite IPs.

Don’t forget this year’s 5€ PayPal gift

As the dates for the sale were revealed by PayPal on twitter, they also disclosed the deal they will be giving to players. If you make a purchase of 20€, you are likely to receive a gift card worth 5€ from PayPal.

Not a farewell to remember: Michael Bay’s final Transformers outing seems to be headed for a crash

With a large section of the movie fanatics awaiting the release of the latest robo flick Transformers: The Last Knight with bated breath, the fifth installment of the film series has opened to an underwhelming response in certain parts of the globe.

Based on the ‘Transformers’ toy series by the American toy and board game company Hasbro, the movie signals the last of the franchise to be directed by the great Michael Bay who bids adieu to the bot series though not in a way one expects of him. It seems like Bay who has directed all the previous Transformers movies till date has got exhausted of ideas.

The Last Knight has been at the receiving end of some dreaded criticism by the movie critics, also quoting a step down from the previous edition. And if the opening day collections of $14 million are anything to go by, then Bay’s latest directorial venture is headed for a disaster.

The movie grossed the lowest revenue on the day of its release as compared to all previous Transformer movies, and may also break the trend of generating at least $1 billion in revenue from its worldwide release.

For the fans in India, the wait is almost over as the movie opens in cinemas this Friday. But what we have deduced from the trailer is Transformers engaging in a conflict with the same humans whose land they once protected. Optimus Prime, banished in the inconspicuous corners of the outer space till now, revives and dons a villain’s hat here. He could be seen tussling with other Autobots.

Domestically, the Transformers franchise has quite a cult following among the movie-goers. So the Last Knight can expect a decent return, although for that it has to fend off the stiff competition that Salman Khan’s Tubelight is set to give. The Bollywood star is back with yet another Eid special and it is hard to imagine the fans ditching ‘bhai’ for a Hollywood film.

If anything, it seems like this Transformers movie is all set to join the band of duds for this year, which already has the likes of Fifty Shades Darker, The Mummy and the fifth edition of the Pirates of the Caribbean in that bracket.

Indeed, Michael Bay is set for a forgetful farewell and Mark Wahlberg is following his footsteps out of the franchise. So Paramount pictures are all set to introduce a new face for the sixth edition of Transformers which is slated to hit the theatres on 28 June 2019.

Twitter What’s Happening at Cannes

Twitter has won the Grand Prix for traditional outdoor at Cannes Lions for its series of Twitter What’s Happening billboards. The campaign, run between October 2016 and early 2017, features hashtags and Twitter logos alongside images from news and pop culture, with no copy. The campaign began with a billboard near the Lincoln Tunnel in New Jersey, featuring Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, looking down over commuters. A set of further billboards addressed issues that were dominating the conversation in the lead up to the 2016 election. Issues were covered through single photographs with just a hashtag and the Twitter logo. Images referenced the legalisation of cannabis, gun laws, the role of Putin, gender-specific bathrooms, the Saturday Night Live take on Trump and Clinton, the continuing legacy of feminists such as Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes on the occasion of the Womens March, climate change (polar bears on melting ice caps), the refugee crisis, marriage equality, abortion (sonogram), ISIS and the Mexican border. Images in the What’s Happening Now campaign also referred to the 2016 deaths of Muhammad Ali, Prince, John Glenn and David Bowie.

Twitter explained the thinking behind the campaign on their blog:

“In the beginning of October, we brought the expression of Twitter out into the world. Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about. And right now, there’s no topic being more widely discussed than the U.S. presidential campaign.
The election is playing out live on Twitter where people can hear directly from the candidates, their supporters, the media, and everyone in between. Because Twitter is open, it’s the place for people to see and discuss the issues from every perspective. This campaign highlights the top issues being discussed on Twitter – it reflects different sides and doesn’t take sides. As they always do on Twitter, people will bring their own point of view to the images that can be seen today around NYC.”
