Discovery Kids to broadcast ‘The ZhuZhus’ in Latin America and the Caribbean

Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana, an international producer and distributor of children’s animated and live-action content, has partnered with Discovery Kids to bring 26 hilarious episodes of its hit animated series, The ZhuZhus, to kids and families throughout Latin America and the Caribbean beginning this May. In addition, Nelvana has completed a broadcast extension deal with Discovery Kids for Backyardigans, ensuring that the CGI-animated series’ 80 episodes remain on-air in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“We are thrilled to work with a dynamic and world-class broadcast partner like Discovery Kids,” said Nelvana, president, Scott Dyer. “We are certain that viewers across Latin America and the Caribbean will be delighted by the uproarious adventures of The ZhuZhus, and the high-spirited adventures of the Backyardigans.”

The ZhuZhus is based on the hugely-popular ZhuZhu Pets toy line from St. Louis, Mo-based Cepia, the mastermind behind the irresistible and always-entertaining lifelike robotic hamsters that became a phenomenon when they were first introduced.

Under the new agreement, The ZhuZhus will soon be entertaining young viewers in Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Riot Games introduces its newest champions with a beautiful cinematic trailer

Riot Games has just upped their cinematic game with a new, enchanting one.

The three minute trailer features the two upcoming champions of the game, Xayah and Rakan. This is the first time that League of Legends is coming up with a duo-champ release. You might choose to play either one of them even when the other one is not in a match, but when combined, it gives them an edge with compatible combos.

Xayah is the ADC and Rakan is the support in the duo. In the beautiful cinematic titled ‘Wild Magic’, a forest is seen crippled with something dark and toxic, which seems to be coming from an eerie looking tree with a hidden room inside it. And who is behind this? It’s the game’s one of the most used assassins in pubs, Zed.

While the duo sneak into the premises of the tree in order to restore the forest, they encounter some creepy looking guards. While Rakan takes them on, Xayah goes in and gets ambushed by Zed.

While the fight continues, Zed is shown using his ultimate ability on Xayah. While she tries to dodge it with her own ultimate (which is possible in game), she gets hurt. Just when Zed tries to strike the coup de grace, the ADC pulls out her spikes, breaking the dark energy soaking crystal in the process, while Rakan leaps forward to protect her. The cinematic ends with a glimpse of the forest being restored.

Riot has been releasing cinematic teasers for almost all the upcoming heroes, but this one is longer than the recent ones. With beautifully animated characters and environments this trailer reminds us of previous trailers like ‘A New Dawn’ or ‘A Twist of Fate’.

The new duo arrives in the rift with the 7.8 patch.

Review: The Veil of Veracity

With Comic Con India spreading its foothold in new cities, it has managed to inspire more comic lovers to start pursuing their dreams to become a part of this comic industry. And out of these passionate writers are two young Mumbai based boys – Siddharth Shetty and Ankit Maroli. These childhood friends collaborated with a budding artist Soham Kamat to come out with their first graphic novel, ‘The Veil of Veracity’.

Title: The Veil of Veracity
Story: Siddharth Shetty and Ankit Maroli
Art: Soham Kamat
Publisher: Notion Press (India)
Pages: 100 colour pages
Price: Rs 250
Release Date (Print and Digital): 3 March 2017

The Veil of Veracity consists of two different stories in different genres. Here’s the synopsis of the comic:

Nirvana

A fast-paced fantasy inspired by elements from Hindu mythology, this tale chronicles one monk’s quest for purity, a thirst to conquer his fears, and to attain Nirvana. Flip through and follow him as his thirst to vanquish his inner demons takes him past the dreaded doors and into the inner sanctum of the temple of purity.
What perils lie in wait for him when the temple stands in judgement of him pitting the piety of his soul against the crippling burden of the monsters that hide within him and pollute his spirit?
Will he succeed in his pursuit to attain Nirvana?
Or will his demons triumph?

Perspective

A dark and intriguing short story, Perspective takes place in an eerily silent part of town, where it follows an unnamed protagonist in the pursuit of answers.
On a chilly winter night, our protagonist arrives at the humble abode of the Edwards Family; a seemingly cheerful old couple that each have their contradictory version of the truth.
Will our protagonist determine which version is actually true?
Will our protagonist finally discover the answers sought?

The first thing that we notice as we take the book in our hand is its cover. The Veil of Veracity’s cover gives us more of a novel book feel than a graphic novel one. However, as we turn the pages, coming from a bunch of new entrants in the field, the feel of the comic is neat with high quality pages.

The first story – Nirvana, takes us through the journey of the struggle between our own selves. While the thought and the message that the author wanted to narrate was strong, what it lacked was the consistency. The story had few unwanted flashbacks which more than hooking the reader’s attention, became tad annoying. Apart from that, a good first attempt by Siddharth Shetty. What keeps one going is the fact that Nirvana has a nice mystery attached to it which is revealed as the story progresses.

The 30 page short Ankit Maroli’s Perspective has a simple yet strong storyline. It has beautifully addressed a social issue which is still prevalent in the society. The writing is crisp and to the point. There’s a small glitch in the timeline which can be overlooked at. The emotions of all three protagonists have come across well.

As far as the sketching and colouring goes, Soham Kamat has done a decent job. The three new entrants have a long way ahead of them, but with persistent hard work and more guidance from the industry professionals, they have the potential to achieve greater success.

Verdict: Recommended (2/5)

Havaianas Made of Brazilian Summer

Havaianas, the footwear brand, has launched “Made of Brazilian Summer”, a global campaign designed to bring a little of Brazil to the rest of the world. When you think of Havaianas, you think of everything that best represents the Brazilian summer, such as happiness, rhythm, energy, friendship, spontaneity, good vibes and free spirit. That is why AlmapBBDO decided to turn the packaging for Havaianas into packaging for all that. The packages — designed in the shape of various products — will both contain the products at stores around the world and promote the campaign’s message, “Made of Brazilian Summer.” The Havaianas Made of Brazilian Summer message is creatively presented on posters, print ads, vignettes, gifs, shop windows and decorations. The packages will also be used throughout the year in activations, press kits for influencers and direct marketing actions. The brand’s social network channels will bring foreigners to Brazil to experience the things that make the Brazilian summer, like Havaianas.

How I Made My Own iPhone – in China

I built a like-new(but really refurbished) iPhone 6S 16GB entirely from parts I bought in the public cell phone parts markets in Huaqiangbei. And it works!

I’ve been fascinated by the cell phone parts markets in Shenzhen, China for a while. I’d walked through them a bunch of times, but I still didn’t understand basic things, like how they were organized or who was buying all these parts and what they were doing with them.

So when someone mentioned they wondered if you could build a working smartphone from parts in the markets, I jumped at the chance to really dive in and understand how everything works. Well, I sat on it for nine months, and then I dove in.

Young Americans Are Worried They'll Be Renting Forever | Compound Interested Ep. 1

Millennials are the patient generation. In 1960, the median age for a first marriage in America was twenty for women and twenty-three for men. Today, it’s twenty-seven and twenty-nine respectively, according to the latest census data.

They’re having kids later in life, too. The CDC reports the age of a first-time mom, 26.3, is up nearly a year in a half since 2000.

No surprise, then, that millennials aren’t buying houses at the rate other generations did. Instead, millennials are either living with family members, or more likely, stuck in the rental market. This surge in renters, coupled with a slowdown in rental property construction associated with the Great Recession, has caused rents to soar. So will you be stuck paying rent forever? Watch the first episode of our new series, “Compound Interested” to find out.
