New ‘Cars 3′ trailer: ‘More speed, more horsepower, more of everything’

The initial teaser for Cars 3 turned dark as the star of the film, Lightning McQueen was shown going through a horrible crash, somersaulting through the air during a race. The scenario turns grim with crashed parts of the car and sparks flying around. In the backdrop of heavy breathing sounds, the text read, “From this moment, everything will change”.

Now, an ‘Extended Look’ clip has been released where Lightning McQueen is up against his own mortality and while ageing, he has to compete with a bunch of new and hi-tech competitors, who are ‘better, stronger and faster’. He must struggle through his way to be relevant in the scenario. A new young generation racer, Jackson Storm, seems like the ultimate antagonist in this movie.

Some of the plot details of the movie has been revealed with the official description of the movie. It reads: “Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!”

The new trailer – “Next Generation” Extended Look which was released during Daytona 500, shows the protagonist, McQueen struggling to stay in the race as he has always been. The voice-line says, “You can’t turn back the clock kid, but you can wind it up again.” Interspersing McQueen’s old days with the new movie’s plot, the fim will cater to the adult audience equally as it will enthral the kids with its well done animation.

Directed by Brian Fee (Cars 2, Ratatouille), Pixar’s Cars 3 opens on 16 June, 2017.

‘Zootopia’, ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘Piper’ shine at the 89th Academy Awards

It was that time of the year when not only the filmmakers and the actors, but also the audience worldwide wait with bated breath, as the results of months-long toil were announced at the most prestigious award ceremony of all time – The Oscars.

Spotlights were on. The red carpet was rolled out. The stage was set. And the crowd sat in anticipation and anxiousness. It was the biggest night for the cinema industry- the 89th Academy Awards. The award ceremony kicked off at Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, 26 February, 2017.

Singer Justin Timberlake started the evening with his Oscar nominated “Can’t Stop the Feeling” from the film Trolls, and the crowd swayed with him. Host Jimmy Kimmel took over from then on. Acclaimed to fame through her films Sophie’s Choice and The Iron Lady, actress Meryl Streep received a standing ovation for her lifetime performance and contribution to the Hollywood cinema. With her 20th Oscar nomination this year, Streep has more Academy Award nominations than any other actor or actress till date.

Junglebook making

‘The Jungle Book’ making

Yet another win came for The Jungle Book as Robert Legato, Adam Valdez, Andrew R Jones and Dan Lemmon grabbed the trophy for best visual effects, defeating the tough rivals Doctor Strange and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Jungle Book had already won awards at BAFTA 2017, 15th VES Awards and 44th Annie Awards this year.

Zootopia

‘Zootopia’

Disney’s Zootopia undoubtedly won the award for best animated feature. Directors Byron Howard and Rich Moore, and producer Clark Spencer collected the prize for the film which has surpassed the $1 billion mark at the box office, highest than any best film nominees this year. Kubo and the Two Strings which recently won accolades at BAFTA Awards 2017 and the 44th Annie Awards unfortunately could not take the award home for either Best Animated Feature or Best Visual Effects.

Pixar’s Piper won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short. Directed by Alan Barillaro and produced by Marc Sondheimer, the film had also won an Annie this year for Best Animated Short Subject.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which had managed to win a BAFTA for best production design, took home the Academy Award for Best Costume Design (Colleen Atwood).

Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini and Christopher Nelson won the day with Best Makeup and Hairstyling award for Suicide Squad.

Hacksaw Ridge

‘Hacksaw Ridge’

John Gilbert won the Academy Award for best film editing, for Hacksaw Ridge – Mel Gibson’s true-life tale of a US army medic. Kevin O’Connell, Andy Wright, Robert Mackenzie and Peter Grace nabbed the prize for best sound mixing, also for Hacksaw Ridge, while Best Sound Editing was won by Arrival (Sylvian Bellemare).

WeKids to bring Studio 100 Media’s leading animated shows to China

The German distribution and production company Studio 100 Media is joining forces with China’s leading animation provider WeKids Asia, bringing four of the company’s most renowned brands Maya the Bee, Vic the Viking, Nils Holgersson and Blinky Bill to the Chinese market. WeKids has acquired the rights to distribute the shows via television, VOD (video on demand) platforms and home video.

“We are enthusiastic to start working with Sean Chu and his talented team on four of our most popular brands in the territory of China. We are convinced that our partnership with WeKids is the right step to significantly increase the awareness of our characters in the Chinese market and we look forward to a fruitful cooperation,” says Studio 100 Media’s head of global distribution, Martin Krieger.

Maya the Bee

Maya the Bee

Studio 100 Media is an international production and distribution company within the children and family entertainment sector, based in Munich, Germany. It develops and acquires new content, engages in co-production and co-financing activities and is also responsible for the international distribution of its own and third party rights.

“We are so excited to start working with Studio 100 Media in China. Chinese kids and families love story-driven classic titles like Nils Holgersson.  Furthermore, because classic Nils Holgersson was one of the few animated TV series introduced into China from abroad in the 1980s, I believe today’s Chinese parents will want to share their affection for Nils Holgersson with their kids as they watch the newly animated Nils series,” says WeKids, CEO, Sean Chu.

WeKids Asia is China’s market leader in providing animation from around the world to kids and families in Greater China. WeKids, which was spun-off in December 2015 from Ciwen Media Group, works with both content and digital distribution partners to be the on-demand destination for a great number of Chinese kids to view animated programs from across the globe.

5 game releases to look out for in March

The month of March holds quite a few exciting releases. Here are some of the ones which we are looking forward to:

LEGO Worlds

So, another game like Minecraft, basically? Not completely. The only relatable thing between LEGO Worlds and Minecraft is that in both of them you can build stuff. In this sand-box, building game you can create whatever you want with lego blocks and given the building unit is lego, each and every brick is important as the next. Published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the game had been on Steam for quite some time as a part of ‘early access’. The game is slated for a formal release on 7 March.

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One.

NieR: Automata

This third-person RPG (Role playing game) is a direct sequel to the 2010 hit title, NieR. Developed by PlatinumGames, this version tells the story in the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world where an unknown race of aliens have taken over earth and the human race is forced to take refuge in the moon, from where they build a new set of droids to reclaim what was once theirs. The game follows a female presenting android named 2B and her companion 9S, who fights alongside earth to put an end to the gigantic machines that threaten earth. You can join the battle on 7 March.

Platforms: PlayStation 4.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands

According to the creator, Ubisoft, this game has the largest action-adventure open world the company has ever created. The game is set in a fictional Bolivia which has been taken over by a drug cartel. It is the first conventional Ghost Recon game in five years, so make sure to check it out! The title is set for a 7 March release.

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

This is undoubtedly one of the titles everyone has been eagerly waiting for. This action role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts recently went gold, meaning that it is pretty much on schedule of its release. We already had a glimpse of the game’s basics, including weapons and combat system. The game releases on 21 March.

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Mario Sports Superstar

This one’s special for two reasons. It brings horse racing into the Mario Universe for the first time and Nintendo is also releasing a set of amiibo cards based on the game which would be the first set of trading cards based on the Mario universe. However, the game does not only add horse racing, you can choose from a plethora of sports like tennis, baseball, soccer and golf. You can get your hands on it on 21 March.

Platforms: Nintendo 3DS.

Bonus:

Nintendo Switch!

With Nintendo’s newest portable/console hybrid officially coming in this month, there will be an assortment of games coming on the platform with the release. Here’s the list of game which would be available on Switch:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Shovel Knight
Skylanders: Imaginators
1-2-Switch
Fast RMX
Super Bomberman R
Just Dance 2017
World of Goo
Human Resource Machine

Piper wins Oscar

Pixar’s film, “Piper” has won the Oscar for Animated Short Film at the Academy Awards. Released in tandem with the animated feature film Finding Dory, “Piper” tells the story of a hungry baby seabird overcoming fear of water. Animation director Alan Barillaro found his inspiration for the short film as he jogged along the beach near Pixar Studios. He observed birds fleeing from the incoming waves but returning immediately to find their food. In “Piper” the baby sanderling is inspired by hermit crabs who dig into the sand to find food in the deeper water. The six minute film was developed over three years, with animation informed by regular visits to beaches in San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay Aquarium. Macro photography and special effects software were combined to recreate sand, waves and feathers with a new level of accuracy in lighting and movement.

Baba Singh and His 200-Pound Turban

Baba Avtar Singh is a Sikh who lives in the northern Indian state of Punjab. As part of their religion, Sikh men wear turbans. Baba Singh, however, wears an especially large turban—quite possibly the largest anywhere. Weighing almost 200 pounds and comprised of more than 1,500 feet of fabric, Singh’s turban is even too large to fit in buses or cars, so he gets around by motorcycle. And he’s quite a sight to behold.
