Pokemon Go developers promise tracking amendments amid fan furore

Pokemon Go has been in the news for a while now. The augmented reality game based on the original series of Pokemon needed players to go out and hunt for pocket monsters, evolve them, fight gym battles and much more. While many were sceptical about the initial hype of Pokemon Go, even after the revenue figures stated differently, the majority of people were positive about the long-run of the game, with even the Indian gaming industry not mincing their praises about the game from Niantic.

While the game has not been launched globally yet, it didn’t seem like a task for fans to get their hands on the game, however this meant they were missing out on many features. Some third party applications tried to make their way into the ecosystem by filling those loops, the developers are not so happy with the fact as Niantic, CEO, John Hanke did not approve of third party pokemon mapping sites like ‘Pokevision’.

Pokemon Go SquirtleA recent update has disorganised the display by not letting users track the distance of pokemons in one to three footprints, instead just displaying a silhouette without notifying the exact distance of the pokemons, which has led to frustration among the fans.

But recently, the developers took to the social networking site Facebook to address their thoughts.

“We have read your posts and emails and we hear the frustration from folks in places where we haven’t launched yet, and from those of you who miss these features. We have removed the ‘3-step’ display in order to improve upon the underlying design,” read the company’s post. “The original feature, although enjoyed by many, was also confusing and did not meet our underlying product goals. We will keep you posted as we strive to improve this feature.”

While recently, the CEO’s accounts were targeted by hackers, citing the apparent reason of the game not being released in Brazil yet. Taking that into consideration, Niantic explained, “We aren’t done yet! Yes, Brazil, we want to bring the game to you (and many other countries where it is not yet available).”

They also dropped a word on why they have not been actively responding to fans saying, “If you haven’t heard us tweeting much, it’s because we’ve been heads down working on the game,” while promising that they will keep the fans updated of what’s going on.

Entertainment Tax to be subsumed with other taxes at state level, says Finance Ministry

The Government today said that  Entertainment Tax (other than the tax levied by the local bodies) and Central Sales Tax (levied by the Centre and collected by the States)are being subsumed at the state level.

In a statement containing frequently asked questions about the Goods and Service Tax (GST), the Finance Ministry said that at the sate level, subsuming of State Value Added Tax/Sales Tax,  Octroi and Entry tax, Purchase Tax,  Luxury tax, and taxes on lottery, betting and gambling are included.

Entertainment tax representationalIt said subsuming of State Value Added Tax/Sales Tax, Entertainment Tax (other than the tax levied by the local bodies), Central Sales Tax (levied by the Centre and collected by the States), Octroi and Entry tax, Purchase Tax, Luxury tax, and Taxes on lottery, betting and gambling are the major features of the Constitution (122nd Amendment) Bill 2014.
At the outset, the FAQ says GST is one indirect tax for the whole nation, which will make India one unified common market. GST is a single tax on the supply of goods and services, right from the manufacturer to the consumer. Credits of input taxes paid at each stage will be available in the subsequent stage of value addition, which makes GST essentially a tax only on value addition at each stage. The final consumer will thus bear only the GST charged by the last dealer in the supply chain, with set-off benefits at all the previous stages.
Multiple indirect taxes at the Central and State levels are being replaced by GST. Backed with a robust end-to-end IT system, GST would be simpler and easier to administer than all other indirect taxes of the Centre and State levied so far, the Ministry said.

Diamond Comics roped in to deliver comic strips for Sony SIX’s TNA Wrestling

So far we have witnessed the launch of games based on the live sports events taking place in India. With gaming industry taking momentum in the sports field, Sony SIX (a part of Sony Pictures Networks India, SPN) has now thought of giving the comic industry a push. Taking innovation to a whole new level Sony SIX launches their first ever digital comic strip for one of its wrestling properties, Total Non-Stop Action (TNA).

These comic strips will feature on the digital platforms (Twitter and Facebook) of Sony SIX wherein some of the biggest names in wrestling who are associated with TNA, will be featured. One of the largest comic publishing house in India, Diamond Comics, has been roped in to curate real life images of the wrestlers like Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, EC III, Gail Kim, Bram, Lashley, Moose and President Dixie Carter into a comic style work.

The TNA comic strips are inspired by superhero comics which are larger-than-life and promise to generate a lot excitement for the viewers. They will serve as a preview to the TNA Impact show for the coming weekend, and the rivalry portrayed between the wrestlers will then continue onscreen.

“At SPN, we are looking at innovative ways to reach out to our consumers and keep them engaged at all times. Through the digital comic strip we aim to build and sustain that interest and excitement for TNA,” comments Sony Pictures Networks, president, distribution and sports business, Rajesh Kaul. “Wrestling has been an integral part of the Indian sporting culture for many years and now, is now growing rapidly in the fight sport category on a global scale. Today’s youth is in awe of the whole ‘superhero culture’ and hence we have used this digital initiative as a medium to reach out to our target audience.”

The inaugural comic strip features a vocal altercation between EC III and Miracle, as they threaten to take one another down at the TNA Heavyweight Championship. The comic strip will be a teaser to EC III and Miracle’s face off in the Bound for Glory playoffs, thus increasing the excitement levels for the upcoming episode.

TNA boasts of some of the biggest international wrestlers, and has also roped in India’s very own Mahabali Shera into their roster. TNA Impact Wrestling telecasts every week on Tuesday, at 5 pm on Sony SIX and SIX HD. The digital comic strip will be released a week prior on the social media pages of both these channels.

Prime Focus delivers 900 VFX shots, DI and camera rental for Bollywood’s ‘Dishoom’

After delivering large number of VFX shots on some of the fine Bollywood films of this year, Prime Focus, the world’s largest integrated media powerhouse, has delivered a comprehensive suite of VFX, DI and equipment rental services for the recent film ‘Dishoom’.

Directed by Rohit Dhawan, Dishoom which released on 29 July, 2016 has marked a decent box office collection in the opening weekend. Behind the scenes, close to 40 artists from Prime Focus VFX were working hard to enhance this action movie, delivering 900 VFX shots within a span of 45 days.

One among many such action sequences is a 12 minute long chase between the protagonists in a helicopter, and the antagonist in a SUV. Although it was filmed for real, Prime Focus recreated the helicopter complete with effects simulations for destruction and collisions to finish the scene in post. In another sequence, Prime Focus applied crowd simulation technology to create crowds and behavioural animation for the stadium scenes in the film.

Speaking about the VFX work on the film, Prime Focus VFX supervisor Rajeev Rajasekharan said, “It would have been challenging to make a live helicopter hit a moving Land Cruiser, hence to simulate the effect we devised a dummy helicopter base and later recreated the entire chopper with the help of CGI. To produce an identical CG model, we took high-resolution stills of the actual chopper from every possible angle, then seamlessly matched the lighting and surface textures, roto’d the actors’ reactions to the impact and composited all layer elements into the final frame.”

The film unfolds in a 36-hour narrative set in the Middle East, and the Prime Focus Digital Intermediate (DI) team worked to enhance the look of the exotic locations with a raw and warm tone. In addition to VFX and DI, Prime Focus’ equipment rental division provided Red Epic Dragon 6K with Master Prime and Alura zoom lenses for the shoot.

Gillette Perfect Isn’t Pretty with Sia

Gillette’s “Perfect Isn’t Pretty” commercial provides a glimpse into training for the 2016 Rio Olympics for Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr., Chinese swimmer Ning Zetao, American decathlete Ashton Eaton, and English cyclist Andy Tennant. Reaching their best is a beautiful thing, but the path, the sacrifices, the pain, and the anguish to attain precision, is anything but. Driving their story further is “Unstoppable” the hit written by Sia, with rapper Pusha T, Brazil marching band Banda Olodum. The three-minute “Perfect Isn’t Pretty” music video appears on YouTube but will appear in a 60-second edit during NBC television coverage opening ceremonies for the Rio Olympic Games on August. 5. The original mix in the Gillette Perfect Isn’t Pretty video is available globally on Spotify, Apple Music and Soundcloud.

Carlos de Jesus, North American Shave Care brand director for Procter & Gamble, explains the thinking behind the Gillette Perfect Isn’t Pretty campaign: “It’s a little different spin on what you see from Gillette. You see the behind-the-scenes work these guys put in every day to be the best. That includes injuries, or “the guy having trouble holding down his fluids. All that was inspired by real-life work they went through. The parallel is the challenges and difficulties we go through in our business to be the best. It’s a very challenging business, and we have to go through some ups and downs to deliver the best razor in the world. We were inspired by that grittiness from the athletes.”

Singer/songwriter Sia talks about her approach to the Gillette Perfect Isn’t Pretty music video: “When I was working on Unstoppable, I wanted to write a sports anthem; the kind of song played before a big game to get the players pumped. As I learned more about Gillette’s ‘Perfect Isn’t Pretty’ campaign supporting the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, this collaboration felt right and this film was a perfect place to unveil this new mix.”

Gillette Perfect Isn’t Pretty Credits

Analytical residues. It all begins whith a mistake. A man spends his whole life expecting a hotline advisor to answer his call. Another makes the earth’s circumference in his living room. A group of tourists follows the gouide.
