This is me – My other life as a photographer

This is a short and personal piece about my life as a photographer, when I am not on assignment, shooting for clients in the outdoor, travel or lifestyle industry. In February 2016 a camera followed me on a trip to the beautiful Faroe Islands shooting landscapes in medium format, enjoying wild nature and a harsh environment that creates a scenery and mood that I love for photos and that makes me feel very alive. But see for yourself. I hope you’ll enjoy it … DOP/edit/grading/sound design: Peter Bender (www.peterbender.org) – thanks so much, man!!! www.outdoor-visions.com www.larsschneider-landscapes.com

''Dance of the Merry Larks'' – Charles Daab (1911)

Xylophone solo by Charles Daab. Issued on Edison Records. Combined with pictures from the March 1911 issue of Technical World Magazine. Daab is one of my favourite artists of the 1910s. I think he’s fab. The photographs shown are interesting, some of them showing railway lines, and others showing buildings. Audio from the UCSB Cylinder Audio Archive.

Nice VIEW

animation-compsition

Last year I was asked to attend the VIEW Conference in Turin, Italy. Put simply, it was incredible – an intimate group of presenters and attendees descending on the city and enjoyed several days of animation, VFX, sound and filmmaking in presentations and workshops.

And it’s on again this year, from 24-28 October, with another amazing line-up. Films like Zootopia, The Good Dinosaur, Storks, Alice Through The Looking Glass, Finding Dory and Kubo and the Two Strings will be on show.

Check back soon to vfxblog for more on the presenters at VIEW – there literally are going to be several superstar directors.

A new trend?

Animal Logic just announced a partnership with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) to start the UTS Animal Logic Academy. Personally I think it’s a great idea, but also part of a wider trend for VFX studios to help training institutions tailor their curriculum to what is required for a production environment. It’s also, frankly, a neat way to plan for potential employees. And there are other examples of VFX studios doing this, RSP has a relationship with UniSA, too, and perhaps so do plenty of UK VFX shops with institutions there. Check out the video embedded above for more on the Animal Logic move.
