Photogrammetizing Phil Tippett’s very awesome stop-mo puppets

GibbyIt was announced a short while ago that Phil Tippett and his studio were contributing to an AR game called HoloGrid: Monster Battle. Then they had a successful Kickstarter for the game, so it’s definitely happening! Also, they used photogrammetry to capture Phil’s various stop motion puppets for use in the game – here’s my behind the scenes look at that at Cartoon Brew.

1> Romance of the three Kingdoms XIII: Koei Tecmo had announced the release date of this game a few months back. A version of the game was already on Steam; 5 July will mark the release of the English version of the game. The game promises “deep strategy and historically accurate warfare”. The game reportedly features two modes, a campaign mode and a hero mode that takes players through the mechanics of the game.

Platforms: PC and PS4

2> Rocket League: Collector’s Edition: While the game has been digitally released already, Psyonix and 505 Games had announced that the retail copy would be released on 5 July. The collector’s edition will include the original Rocket League game plus items and cars from its expansion pack. The bundle will consist of all of its three DLC content.

Platforms: PC, Xbox One and PS4

3> Ghostbusters: This game inspired by the movie will be hitting stores on 12 July. 8> I am Setsuna: Square Enix’s small scale project I am Setsuna is set to give you nostalgic moments once you play it. The setting is not as polished as today’s games but it will remind you of early PS RPG play style. It will be releasing on 19 July.

‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ fails to create the box office explosion of its prequel

Very few sequels have the similar effect and manage to trigger the same response like their initial ventures. Director Roland Emmerich’s recent feature film Independence Day: Resurgence earned $143 million at the global box office in its opening weekend which is comparatively less than its 1996 prequel’s collection.

The film released on 24 June, 2016 and earned $41.6 million from its domestic market in North America over its first weekend whereas, the 1996 film had earned $50.2 million domestically. Resurgence however had  a decent performance at the foreign market as it garnered $102 million from 57 overseas markets in its first weekend.

The alien attack and battle for survival based film picked up $37.3 million in China, the 4th highest grossing frame ever for Fox. It landed at the second position there for the weekend, topped by Now You See Me 2. In fact, the film’s highest international collection was witnessed in China amounting to a sum of $37.3 million.

Independence Day Resurgence 6

Well, it scored the biggest ever opening for Fox in India. The Hollywood movie collected $2.54 million at the Indian box office in its opening weekend and thus performed well as compared to its Bollywood competitors Raman Raghav 2.0, Udta Punjab and Te3n.

However, the movie has received negative reviews and has a long way to recover its production budget of $165 million. Distributed by 20th Century Fox, the movie has a couple of days to at least recover its production costs and has few overseas releases lined up.

Independence Day was the highest-grossing film of 1996. So undoubtedly, Independence Day: Resurgence has failed to create the box office explosion which its prequel created.

‘Animation Throwdown: The Quest for Cards’- Mobile game to assemble American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, King of the Hill, Family Guy and Futurama

The animated shows from Fox Entertainment have won many hearts for years, providing everyone with a good dose of humour. After all, who has not cracked up at the quirky one-liners from Hank Hill or laughed heartily at the comic statements of Peter Griffin. While they were all great as individual properties, bringing them together would just mean a treat for the fans. Now, from the recent announcements, it seems that all the animated shows from Fox Entertainment are coming together to create one single game (Except The Simpsons, which already has its own game).

Fox Digital Entertainment and Kongregate, GameStop’s mobile and web games publishing wing have announced that, they will be releasing a collectible card game called, Animation Throwdown: The Quest for Cards which will have characters from all the above mentioned series. Players will be able to collect different cards which will feature the beloved characters and eventually build a deck and challenge other players for battles.

Animation Throwback
“We are thrilled to bring together these five animated comedies for the first time in Animation Throwdown: The Quest for Cards,” said Kongregate, president and co-founder, Emily Greer. “We are looking forward to integrating characters from these hit series in a unique and exciting way that fans of all the shows will really love.”

Marketing the game seems to be not much of an effort for the developers and partners as Fox Digital Entertainment can look forward to its huge fan base and GameStop can easily rely on physical presence throughout coupled with the monthly visitor reach of Kongregate’s website.

Kongregate will be collaborating with Chicago-based Synapse Games and San Francisco-based Chinzilla Games for the development of the product. The game would be initially released over iOS and Android during this year’s Q3. No details about the gameplay has been revealed as of yet.

It seems to be quite a promising turn, as consumers will relate much more to the characters as the shows are already popular, even people who are not so fond of games might give it a try owing to the same reason.
