Discovery "Street Magic" Ident

I had the great pleasure to collaborate with Discovery’s Creative Director Antonio Rojas on the design and production of this ident for Discovery Channel. The idea was to create a piece that makes reference to the cool street magic tricks typically performed by masters Dynamo and David Blaine. Inspired in the old legend of the Ace of Diamonds, we created a micro story that evokes the playfulness and mystery of the series. How Shotgun Helped FATface VFX and Animation Studio

Mon 23rd Mar 2015 | News

FATface is a boutique VFX and animation studio based in Hong Kong. For more than a decade, FATface’s team of 40 artists has serviced both commercial and film projects and earned a strong reputation in Hong Kong’s competitive marketplace. As the company has expanded to tackle larger and more complex projects, FATface began looking for a flexible production management tool that would be easy to implement and integrate with their existing structure, provide value to users at all levels, and easily scale along with the company. After exploring several off-the-shelf solutions and collecting suggestions from colleagues, FATface decided to standardize on Shotgun.

The FATface team first had the chance to break Shotgun in on its recent production of sci-fi short film VIRTUS, a fully photoreal CG project where robots engage in intense battles. VFX Supervisor Alan Lam explained, “”We only had a limited timeframe to complete VIRTUS, and Shotgun helped us organize a massive amount of data and assets. Since everyone on the production team can input into and access Shotgun, it saved us time and resources on data sharing between departments, and eliminated communication errors. Having Shotgun in place let us focus on the art and not worry about tracking our data.””

Lam continued, “Shotgun gives me a bridge to communicate with my producers and artists efficiently. It shows the progress of projects clearly and centralizes all updates. I can review and leave comments, and know that they’re being communicated directly to the artists. It just makes my day easier.””

THE ITERATIVE METHOD

ADVICE: WATCH IN HD QUALITY DIRECTION-CODE-MUSIC-GFX: LEONARDOWORX Case studies about iterative method. How can it be connected to generative life. It’s about how math and physic can be the key for explaining human life and perception, even the feelings we can not quantify, like love, that goes beyond time and space dimensions. NOTE: This project started developing code functions in Max/Msp and Processing using Arrays and the “for” instruction. After i decided to connect all research i made (studying physic books, TED talks, M.I.T. documents) in one project, trying to enhance the conncetion between these studies and my life experience. ABOUT ITERATIVE METHOD: In computational mathematics, an iterative method is a mathematical procedure that generates a sequence of improving approximate solutions for a class of problems. A specific implementation of an iterative method, including the termination criteria, is an algorithm of the iterative method. An iterative method is called convergent if the corresponding sequence converges for given initial approximations. A mathematically rigorous convergence analysis of an iterative method is usually performed; however, heuristic-based iterative methods are also common. In the problems of finding the root of an equation (or a solution of a system of equations), an iterative method uses an initial guess to generate successive approximations to a solution. In contrast, direct methods attempt to solve the problem by a finite sequence of operations. In the absence of rounding errors, direct methods would deliver an exact solution. Iterative methods are often the only choice for nonlinear equations. However, iterative methods are often useful even for linear problems involving a large number of variables (sometimes of the order of millions), where direct methods would be prohibitively expensive (and in some cases impossible) even with the best available computing power.
