ExWeta Digital TD Releases Advanced Rigging Tutorial

Thu 6th Nov 2014 | News

CGCircuit (www.cgcircuit.com), a tutorial marketplace for traditional and technical artists, announces Andy Van Straten’s release of his advanced rigging tutorial, “Skinning with nCloth.” Created by a former Weta Digital TD, this tutorial contains the sought after rigging technique of multi layered cloth simulation for achieving advanced skin deformation. Also included is detail on modeling the bones and muscles of the arm. Graduating from Otago University and Media Design School, Andy Van Straten has worked on major films such as, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and “The Hobbit II: The Desolation of Smaug.”

In “Skinning with nCloth” Andy explains how to achieve results similar to his Weta work with Maya builtin Rigging Tools and nCloth. Andy provides useful scripts along with guidelines to implementing his rigging techniques into a production pipeline. Designed for riggers who want to gain traction in their field, this unique advanced tutorial provides a rare glimpse into techniques used on some of Weta’s finest work. Today the level of quality in rigs is becoming higher and higher and “Skinning with nCloth” can help a rigger raise the bar.

Carlo Sansonetti, Founder of CGCircuit, believes “Skinning with nCloth” holds a great value because, “This tutorial is one of the best tutorials on CGCircuit. Andrew explains a difficult and complex topic beautifully. I have been a rigger for almost 15 years, and I love to see a new approach to skinning. This tutorial is for riggers who want to stand out and take their reel to another level.” Check out Andy’s, “Skinning with nCloth” at cgcircuit.com/course/skinningwithncloth.

Misereor Social Swipe Posters

German relief organisation MISEREOR has been picking up financial support with the help of interactive posters mounted in airports in Hamburg and Amsterdam. With the help of Stripe.com Misereor invited pedestrians to donate two Euros to Miterer by swiping their credit cards through the ropes tying the hands of child in the Philippines, or cut a slice of bread from a loaf for a family in Peru. The reference on the credit card statement invites the donor to consider a more substantial financial commitment to the cause. The campaign has won Gold for Poster at the London International Awards.

One Human Family, Food for All

Based on an ancient story about hunger and sharing, this animated video is part of Caritas’ “One Human Family, Food for All” campaign. The “allegory of the spoons” teaches us that when we struggle to feed only ourselves, everyone goes hungry. But when we focus on our neighbour’s hunger, we discover there are ways to feed everyone.

Around the world, Caritas helps people so that they can feed their families. Learn more about our anti-hunger work at facebook.com/CaritasFoodforAll.
