Direction of real wave Splash

Hi Everyone. Still new to real flow here, following tutorials from Digital Tutors at the moment.

I’m very curious about realwave object splash. I’m testing out with a simple bird model diving into the sea. There are tons of particles being emitted downward into the sea and not so many emitting upwards into the air…. Is there a way to force it to only go above the sea? Right now I’m using the volume to kill off particles going below, but it seems such a waste of particles : /

Free Webinar – Key Concepts for Entry-Level and Junior Compositors

Hi all

We have a free webinar taking place tomorrow conducted by our Compositing Tutor Davi Stein.

Here’s the details

Key Compositing Concepts for Entry-Level Artists and Juniors

As an entry-level or junior compositor who’s just starting out in the industry, it’s important for you to have a practical understanding of the key concepts used in compositing. In this webinar our compositing tutor, Davi Stein, will discuss a Roto, Paint and Rig Removal shot in detail explaining what you need to know as well as how to prioritise your workload. Davi will run you through the dos and don’ts for your compositing showreel and explain what you should include on such a specialised reel.

About Davi Stein

As a professional compositor with over 15 years experience, Davi has a wealth of experience and understands what it takes to be successful. As well as being a Senior Compositor on ‘The Dark Night’, ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ and ‘Australia’, Davi also did a stint at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and worked on ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest’ where she composited the Davy Jones character. You can read Davi’s full list of credentials by clicking here.

Problem with PositionToPoints

helly everybody,

i’m playing around with the PositionToPoints node. so far i’ve rendered a beauty pass and a position pass from maya and connected everything to the node. everything works fine when i’m in nuke’s 3d-view. but when i’m rendering my scene with a scanline renderer it seems that i can’t control the point size any longer. what am i missing?

thanks

At Night.

ALLUVION – short film (Sci-Fi)

Hi,

Here’s my latest film, a 2min20sec (vfx) Sci-Fi short film done for the UK’s Virgin Media Shorts competition.

From conception to delivery it took me 1 full month to complete on my spare time!

Enjoy it and feel free to drop a comment on the following webpage.

Quicktime on nuke (Windows)

so i kinda of screwed up, i received some files to work on but they are quicktime files and im on a windows plataform, i do have a mac but its running lion and since lion is not running nuke right now…what can i do? is there a way to open quicktime files on nuke on windows?

Need advice on optimal setup with 2x SSD 1x platter

So I use nuke and AE/3d rendering programs a lot and I am just about to reinstall my software because i got a new crucial m4. I know in an ideal world you should be running your OS on one drive, your software on another, be reading input from another, and outputting to another.

With these drives though I am not sure what I should have where. Are the benefits of using separate drives minimal when one drive is so much faster? Should I just install everything on the m4 or should I put win7 on the 80gb drive and install all my software on the m4? Currently I plan on installing the OS and all my software on the M4 and using the 80gb ssd to read from and output to the 2tb drive.

256gb crucial m4: read:415mb/s write 260 mb/s
80gb intel x-25m read:250mb/s write : 70mb/s
2tb 64mb cache HD
1tb 32mb cache HD
