New Tutorial – Ripple Interference Pattern

Hey guys, another month another tutorial available on my site. I’ve actually figured out several things I am going to be turning into tutorials, so I may end up coming out with another one sooner than next month. Hurrah. This one is something that I had to figure out how to do for a project I was working on visualizing some math concepts for. Let me know what you think, and if you have any CC for it.

It is available on my site under the tutorial section. AdamFerestad.com

Just letting everyone know, I am posting this on several forums. Thanks.

Ewan Croft :: Vfx Reel

Hey all – I’m new to this forum. You all have posted some incredible reels on here. I’m a bit shy to post this but here is my FX / sim real that I’m putting together. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I still have a few days to finesse.

Cheers,
E.

Internal HDD recommendations?

Howdy,
I’m looking to upgrade my internal HDD in my Macbook Pro and am wondering if anyone could recommend any serious, reliable work horses from experience?

My current internal is a 5,400rpm 320GB. I’m looking at getting a 7,200rpm, hopefully 750GB or there abouts.

I’ve looked at the Momentus XT, with the on board 4GB SSD chip, not sure entirely whether this will benefit me though due to the amount of different programs I use on a regular basis?

Other than that, I’ve been considering the Seagate Momentus and the WD Scorpio Black.

I noticed that Western Digital also offer the Scorpio Blue, which is just 5,400rpm, but goes up to 1tb!! It’s the biggest 2.5" I’ve seen so far!
Also, is cache a big thing in performance? I notice that some (ie. Scorpio Blue) have 8mb, and some have 16mb?

To shed some light on my situation, my main work flow generally involves FCP, Motion, Color, Nuke, PFTrack, Houdini, RealFlow and Logic Pro.

Any help or advice would be fantastic and greatly appreciated 😀

Thanks in advance guys.

Texture Pelting & UV Texture Unwrap

Hi,

Simple question, is Texture Pelting and UV Texture Unwrap the same thing just called different names or are the different.

If they are different, how?

Many thanks,

Matt

Roto help for a shot!

Hi All, http://youtu.be/7-yIskP6vE4
I am replacing the arched building to the left of this shot (Looking straight onto it at the end) and so far have tracked, modeled, textured ect ect, and I always thought ah once I get into Nuke I will just roto those bits out….then I took it into new and started to do a few little bits of roto, and releaised its probably not going to look great, especially the bars down at the front! Although Im thinking that if I moddelled them in 3D, I could then pull an alpha from that, for the gaps ect.(although any other sugestions gladly welcomed!)
But my big issue is the tree, how would you all go about that?

Thanks In Advance,

RED Camera Film Back Size

Hey Guys,

Maybe a stupid question but when tracking footage shot with the RED cam, i would use the filmback sizes from this

http://www.jfi.net/RED/REDFormats3.pdf

It however doesnt have 4kHD (3840 x 2160) which is what alot of footage i get is, and also it doesnt have 4.5k WS (4480×1920) which i had one chunk of footage from. Is there any way to calculate these based on the known other sizes? Or does anyone have the numbers already they could give me?

Thanks,

What do you think of autodesk photofly 2.0

i never try photofly before but it seems to be cool… i’ve just checked it out on autodesk website which is called "Project Photofly" is that what you’re talking about? coz it looks great… a lot of 3D’s features in it… can even create model by using photograph that been shot… 🙂
