Lens question: A real stupid one

Hi all,
I admit, i spend most of my time on a pc and NOT behind a camera so forgive me for this question:

When a camera’s lens is replaced with a 28mm, 50mm, or 85mm, can you "zoom’ with them?

For example, what’s the difference if you use a 50mm lens and then zoom all the way in to make it a 100 mm ??

Look at video TIP # 3

Why 28mm, 50, 100, etc when zoom & move could to it?

favicon for the site

Hi,

This might be brought up several times before. I think it will be great to have a favicon (the one at the top-left of the site looks great) for the site so that it’s easier to recognize in a bunch of tabs in the browser.

Just my 2 cents.

Science D Visions 3DEqualizer Weta Digital LDPK Nuke Nodes

Dear Friends of 3DE!

It turned out that our new lens distortion models, recently introduced with 3DE4 r1b10, are much more powerful than our "vintage" classic one.

To make them even more powerful, in terms of integration into production pipelines, our friends at Weta Digital developed a Nuke node infrastructure which is based on our lens distortion SDK (LDPK).

The cool thing is, they released their work as open source:

Nuke nodes for 3D Equalizer lens distortion plugin kit

In addition, there is a 3DE4 Python script which allows to create a Nuke 3DE distortion node (.nk), compatible to the currently selected camera (incl. dynamic lens distortion):

Export Nuke Distortion Nodes v1.2

Many thanks to Peter Hillman, Wolfgang Niedermeier and Lee Bramwell!

Cheers,

Rolf

Autodesk Flame Hardware Problems

The hardware I’m using right now is a hp Z800, for some reason, it doesn’t run very smoothly when I’m using flame.

Did anyone encounter any problems with the hardware when running autodesk flame?

How long before the Stone hard-drive gets damaged?

When using flame in HD version, are there other systems that can replace the Z800? If yes, what other systems are available for running HD in flame? Or maybe older models before the Z800 are capable too?

Any feedback would be appreciated! Thank you!
