Calling a frame render in MEL ?

Hello,

Short version:

Is there a way to call a render and save it to disk of a particular frame from within a MEL script ?

Longer version:

I’m programming a script in Maya for a non CG project – it serves mostly as a UI for another system … Thing is it turns out we’d like to render some frames after all but the thing is our code builds its elements per frame then deletes them all ready for the next (we output text files for use elsewhere), keeping everything and/or keyframing visibility and other attempts have bogged down the RAM with waaaaaaay to much geometry. If we could just call a render from MEL at the end of each frame that would output to disk it’d be awesome. When I select and use the render panel I see no MEL output in the script editor happening from which to distill the commands…

Is it possible ?

Kind regards…

World War 1 Scene, rough

Im going to be graduating soon from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics. I am making a World War 1 scene to be the main shot in my demo reel and I am looking for feedback and suggestions. It still has a ways to go.

The lighting on the tank is a low quality render because i haven’t finalized the texture on the tank, i am trying for a more “beat up” look
There are still several elements missing, such as explosion craters in the ground, barbed wire, blown out trees, biplanes in the distance with anti aircraft fire, as well as a more animated sky.

The fence on the right side of the screen will be removed.

how to remove dynamic hair rig stretch

title may sound confusing but here’s the deal.

I have some parts of a model I want to dynamically deform as it animates. So in the rig I have a few IK Splines being driven by maya hair systems. Works fine as far as the hair and dynamic motion. The problem is that the first joint where the IK starts is stretching away from the previous joint it is parented to. I’m not sure why because the stretching isn’t where the hair is, and I don’t remember seeing this before. No follicle settings will remove this.

I am attaching 2 screenshots to make it clearer. The first is how the rig looks at the start, and the second shows how the IK start joint stretches away from the parent joint. Start joint is green, parent is magenta.

Any thoughts on fixing this?
