3D Artist Needed

Hello,

I am looking for a 3D generalist to work on a single VFX shot for a short film.

The shot involves modeling, texturing, lighting, and animating a small flock of birds. I am open to the possibility of purchasing an already existing bird model, if we find a model that you, as an artist, will be happy with, – in which case you’ll just need to adjust the UV maps, light, and animate the flock.

The shot is fairly short (no longer than two seconds), and no heavy-duty rigging needs to be involved, as the birds fly away and disappear in the branches very quickly. The camera is locked off, and no tracking is required. You also won’t need to worry about any compositing-related tasks.

This is an indie short, and I cannot pay industry rate; however, you will be compensated for your time.

Taking classes in post-production

Hello

Don’t know if this is the right forum to post this question, but I’ll give it a shot. 🙂
So, this summer I’m moving from Denmark to the Palo Alto, CA to live with my dad in 4-5 months time. The purpose of this, is among others to study and take classes since my dad’s university, Stanford, offers to pay for classes in the Bay Area for relatives. So I’ve been using programs like Sony Vegas, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Cinema4D for quite some time now, and therefore I’d like to take some classes or courses to learn even more about post-production. So I surfed around on the internet and looked at some community colleges and schools, and so far these two are what seem most appropiate, Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) and San Francisco School of Digital Filmmaking. So my question to you guys is just if you have any recommedations or experiences with this that could help me?
As I said I’m staying there 4-5 months, so the courses and classes should not last over a period too long or too short, more like a few weeks..
Anyway, hope you guys can help me out here. Would be very much appreciated. 🙂

nParticle API

Hi guys

Wondering if anyone has played around with nParticles using Maya API for custom stuff. We want to customize how nParticles handle collisions and collision boundaries/shape. Trying to find some research materials on it and haven’t found much at all. Any advice, links, references are appreciated.

this doesn’t need to be specific, I’m not coding the stuff anyway. Looking more for info on how to reach these parts of the node with a plug-in. I couldn’t seem to find mention of it in the docs, just radius and thickness info in there from what I saw.

Color match using color chart

I’m playing around with matching colors using color charts and in theory it should work very well. And I guess it does, but I’m not really sure what the right process is. In the attached script, I a fg plate shot in a studio and a bg plate shot at a location with different cameras. I thought that by using the grade node and sample the black and white points of my original image color chart and then sample the lift and gain from the bg plate, would be the correct workflow. But it seems to give me better result by sampling the skin-tones of my plates instead of white. Why is this? How do you guys normally handle situations like this?

Again, this is just a quick test of concept, and it should be very quick to match colors with this method. I have seen the video on The Foundrys webpage about this, but he samples skin color there aswell.

Could you do something with the other colorson the chart and create a 3D lut somehow that would be very accurate?

how to get dependent nodes name or lists?

That’s the question:
I was trying:

without success..:(

The is get the name of the dependent node and for use it in a path (TCL)..

any suggestions??

Random little questions

A couple things that have been bugging me with Fusion but haven’t been able to figure out… Was wondering if anyone knew the answer to any of these..

Any created macros don’t show up in the ctrl-space window

How does the if expression work? I’ve tried the whole "if(c, x, y)" thing with various different combinations trying to keep it as simple as possible and it doesn’t come up with anything. Was messing around with it using the values in a custom tool.

There’s some more I believe but my mind is numb from reimporting too many loaders. Thanks in advance 🙂
