I found myself needing to go back to a tutorial on the website. I couldn’t find the video that I was looking for. It was so confusing .
Is it me or is the New Layout a little confusing?
I loved the old way , they had every tutorial directly below each other, and all you had to do was scroll & look.
Here’s three four pieces of odd, “creature-driven” music (yes they’re still relevant) video work from some of our favorites to get your Wednesday going.
First up, the legend, Tom Kuntz, makes a return to music videos after a hiatus that involved picking up an Emmy for his hugely successful Old Spice work. For MGMT, this piece lacks none Tom’s signature quirk, but uses it to summon tears versus laughter — well maybe a few laughs.
This second vid is now a couple weeks old, but a fitting companion to Kuntz’s. Andrea Nilsson, a director who continues to secure his rank in the upper echelon of video directors. With a current VMA nomination for his last MGMT vid, this piece for Yeasayer pits pathos and the absurd against each other with a brilliant balance that continues to become Nilsson’s signature in storytelling.
This late edition just came in it and seemed it had to join the lot. Daniel Fickle and his crew at Two Penguin Productions continue the thread with their video for Portland Cello Project. (Thanks for the tip, Magee)
On a somewhat light note, Colonel Blimp and JMD bring you talking babies (with mustaches) — enough said.
Hi all
I am looking to convert a volume field generated in pyro fx to a surface.
The problem I am having is that I end up with a lot of extra info due to number of fields involved. Does anyone know how to use VOPs to strip out only the density field and use that to generate a mesh? I have unsuccessfully tried iso-offset, iso-surface and volume convert
I have included an example file so you can see what the hell I’m talking about

This remake of the 1981 original which was a huge hit captivating audiences everywhere is billed by Warner Brothers as ‘The ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus is helpless to save his family from Hades, vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny. ‘
This film seems to have had mixed reviews some hinted at the fact that it jumped on the coat tails of movies such as Lord Of The Rings but didn’t do such a good job. Other critics remarked that the CGI monsters were too complicated and with simplification would have been more frightening. A remake is always a tough thing to succeed at and especially as this is such a classic story as old as the hills. The 3D element didn’t help either and many reviewers advised the public not to waste their money on the extra entrance fee because the last minute choice to make the film in 3D caused the badly choreographed battle scenes to be difficult to follow, making the viewer dizzy.
What’s your take on this film? Agree, Disagree or just plain indifferent?
this is the Camera Tracking and Match Moving test….. i m using boujou for camera tracking and for composting After effect cs4……… so check it out and give me some suggestions……..
i plan on shooting some clips with very shallow depth of field. I’d like to digitally insert some 3D elements later. I’m concerned tho that the matchmoving software willl have nothing good to track.
how would you suggest I go about this?
would it be best to shoot it at a slower aperture and artificially blur it later?
Just wondering how many vfx artists are stationed in Vancouver and if so, how many of you have come across the "High technology professional" tag in their contract. Seems like this only favors the studio, artists get overtime after 10 hours. From my understanding some studios in the Vancouver area are using this classification and some aren’t. Any input to clarify or to hear your thoughts about this act would be appreciated.
I am trying to read my fbx file into the camera in Nuke, and I can only read the default take where it says take name in Nuke. I need to select an additional take, but I guess none was created in Maya.
How do you create various takes in Maya so I can reexport the fbx.
My issue is that my camera comes in static in nuke however it is animated in Maya, this is my first time trying to bring in an animated camera via fbx file from Maya and so far it only comes in static with no animated keyframes as I have set in Maya.
I think being able to set the take name to something other than default will work, but how can I do so? I am assuming this based on this article here, but if you have any other ideas why my animated camera in maya is coming in static in nuke please help. My fbx files I think are fine, as my geometry comes in fine and lines up great.
