Phillip Noyce’s Salt takes audiences on a thrill ride with
title character and CIA agent Angelina Jolie, who may or may not be a
Russian spy out to assassinate the U.S. President. Visual effects
supervisor Robert Grasmere oversaw the work of several vendors to
provide hundreds of invisible shots for the film. fxguide takes a look at the
effects by Framestore and CIS Vancouver.

Alcohol Under a Microscope

Ever look at alcohol under a microscope magnified 1000x? Me neither. But Bevshots and some chemistry folks at Florida State University did, the the visuals are pretty rad.

Blur: “DC Universe”

This amazing 5 minute CG trailer for the upcoming “DC Universe Online” video-game almost slipped past our radars.

Brought to life by Blur Studio, it features Poison Ivy, Wonder Woman, Metallo, The Green Lantern, Giganta, Black Adam, Batman, The Flash, Cyborg, Lex Luthor, Deathstroke, Artemis, The Joker, Harley Queen, Superman and Brainiac (…phew!) all together, epically battling it out on a post-apocalyptic Earth.

With pure balls to the wall awesomeness including Superman with red eyes; it just doesn’t get more badass than this! If only DC could make their features as good as their game trailers…

Vector Blur artifacts

Hello everyone,

Trying to come up with a good plan of attack for some Vector Blur artifacts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Craig

Eduardo Recife

One of my all-time favorite designers – Eduardo Recife updates with tons of new beautiful, disturbing (in a good way) work.

shadows with falloff

I have been using the 3Dshadows plug from creative crash. it’s a very simple but effective setup to generate faux shadows in nuke but I need to try to get a bit more realism into the shadows. Is anyone aware of any faux raytracing hacks or gizmos that i could use to improve this setup?

I want the shadows to falloff by distance from the casting geo to the receiving geo as they would in a raytracer with an area light.

I have included a scene for perusal, I’m guessing any solution would involve some sort of python which is ok by me but i am not sure where to start.
maybe something using pythagoras?

the example is for Nuke 6.0v3
cheers

do you anything stereoscope

Is it impossible?

Hey everyone,

Has anyone ever successfully used the Mental Ray "mv3D" pass plugged into Nuke’s "Vector Blur" node? I’m aware of a few of the workarounds but am curious about Maya’s built-in setup.

Thank you,
Craig

SWAY Studio Contributes to New Trailer for Dexter

[NEWS=”http://www.cgnews.com/wp-content/uploads/dexter_binbag_th.jpg”]27030[/NEWS]Dexter Morgan, Miami Metro Police Department blood spatter analyst, has a double life. When he’s not helping the Homicide division solve murders, he spends his time hunting and killing bad guys who slip through the justice system.

Dexter will charm fellow officers with a doughnut, while away a Sunday with his wife Rita and the kids, or chop up a victim and package their body parts in plastic bags. Hiding beneath the mundane exterior and contrived facade of Dexter is an obsession with meting his own twisted brand of justice: stalking and murdering the guilty.

Dexter is a television drama series that first debuted in October 2006 on the American network Showtime. The first series was based loosely on ‘Darkly Dreaming Dexter’ by Jeff Lindsay, the first book in the Dexter series by the novelist.

The talented team at SWAY Studio collaborated closely with Director Norry Niven to create the new, promotional trailer for the much-anticipated 5th Season of “Dexter.” Featuring America’s favorite serial killer, Dexter Morgan, the dramatic and compelling promo literally turns Dexter’s world upside down, and entices viewers to tune in for the season premiere.

SWAY creates persuasive, photo-real, computer-generated imagery for ad agencies and other content producers using customized tools and techniques that push the boundaries of possibility, ensuring our clients’ product is leading-edge.
