Studios in NYC that use After Effects for VFX (Not Motion Graphics)

Hello,

I am looking for work in the NYC area, and am curious in vfx studios (not motion graphic ones) that use AE for visual effects. I know flame and other software is used alot in studios, but I am hearing that After Effects is as well! A list/ any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thankyou,
Mike

Loyal Divide: Vision Vision

Drag and Drop render queue for OS X. . . (coming soon)

Just a little teaser and interest check for a simple little app I am working on. A drag and drop render queue system for After Effects, Maya, Nuke, and Shake, and possibly more in the future. (Any app that supports command line rendering should work).

Simply drag and drop multiple project files or scripts onto the droplet, even if they are of different types, and the app will automatically determine how to submit them and render them within Terminal in a queue. It will display clear messages in Terminal on which renders are currently active, when the started an finished, and even custom render finished sounds for when the queue is finished!

It really is a tool currently meant for local use on single workstations or as a tool to make multi-machine rendering easy to manage for individuals or small teams with multiple workstations. Just using built in screen sharing in OS X and a tool like this it should be extremely easy to manage renders across multiple systems.

More info and a demo video is coming soon. As I said, just wanted to see if this is something people would be interested in so feel free to post or contact me if this sounds good. It will likely be free but a lot of work went into this tool so if you happen to download this in the future don’t get stingy with those donations!

Learning Nuke and Keying in Nuke, any tips on this shot

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to get into Nuke more, as I used After Effects for most of my Keying and Roto and have taken classes on nuke from fxphd but trying to do some work on my own stuff as I go through the classes.

i am going throw the keying class in the First nuke class but cant seem to get a nice key for this shot. I know I could just use roto but I wanna see if I can key it first.

The main probably is the edges are very rough when I key, just looking for some suggestions on ways to tackle this in Nuke, Still getting used to the Node based layout .

change hue + sat on tracked green marker

Looking for help on the best way to tweak the colour of a green tracking marker. I’m using a tracker with the data linked via an expression to a paint/roto node which is isolating an area within a piece of footage of a green tracking marker which is then being removed by a MakerRemoval node. It’s doing an okay job, but I have a bit of green halo that I want to just remove the saturation and potentially hue as well to something more skin tone. I’m pretty new to nuke so not sure the best way to approach this. Cheers,

Azureus Rising

Azureus Rising is a proof of concept developed by the San Diego production company Black Sun Entertainment. We know very little about them other than the fact they created a pretty epic piece in hopes of fleshing it out into a feature film trilogy. Independently, I might add.

The basic premise thus far involves a “heroic freedom fighter” pitted against a mecha-scorpion. We aren’t entirely sure about his motivations but he definitely has some impressive talents navigating his way through the hyper futuristic metropolis he inhabits.

Motionographer’s Harm got a little bit more info from the director, David Weinstein, when he asked him about how much story can be crammed into 5 minutes. A note we pulled, as it turns out, from the Q&A from Black Sun Entertainment’s site and not from conversation with the director.

That’s the thing. With 5 minutes—how much story can you really get? I knew I could not get a emotional reaction with only 5 minutes of screen time. There’s no time to set up the characters so you feel like you can relate to them, and then watch how they handle and react to the events that unfold around them. For me story is about showing change. The change in a character—or the changes in the world and the hero’s impact on those transformations. So instead of trying to half ass my story into a 5 minute short film, I opt to make a exciting visual display of the world and the character in action.

The 5 minutes do fly by rather fast, but in a good way. We look forward to seeing more from Black Sun Entertainment and the budding saga of Azureus.

Animating Time

Hi there,
I’m completely new in Fusion and I wondered how to animate a time-stretch in Fusion?

So at first the foootage plays fast, then slows down, and fast up again and so on.
I’ve watched some Video tutorials of eyeon on how to animate parameters but in the "TimeSpeed" Operator I can’t animate the first param.

Any Suggestions?

New to Compositing. Where should I start?

Hey guys,

My name is Stefan Lipsius. I have just recently graduated from a game development program, but I focused on animation while I was there. Compositing was being taught in the animation program at my school, and it was something that interest me. So, I’m taking on the task of teaching myself via online tutorials / learning books.

Here is my problem. I have NO IDEA where to begin. What I should learn first. What are the foundations of compositing. The basics, really. Motion tracking, rotoscoping, compositing, etc. *Shrug*

Anyone have any tips for a newbie?

I am using After Effects CS4, and have already found the creativecow.net tutorials.

Thanks.

Stefan
