StinkDigital Arno’s 100 Lovers

StinkDigital continues to deliver quality work from all ends of the spectrum with this recent video-catalog/music video from Arno Salters (via Anomaly, London). This piece is an East-London-Pub-Remake of the Café dance scene in Godard’s, ‘Bande à Part’, with the laborious edit coming from Paul Harcastle at Bethnal Green’s own, Trim. It also doubles as the debut video for Josep Xorto’s forthcoming track, “A Hundred Lovers” while allowing you to roll over the video to see what the dancers are wearing.

Though Diesel were early adopters, it’s great to see the fashion industry and their publications continuing to dive into the world of content commissioning.

Bonus: For those of you working in London, see if you can spot the numerous cameos…

Why do alphas add when multiplied together?

Why do alphas add when multiplied together? Where white alpha is over black, it becomes white. But 0*1 should equal 0?

Keying Problem

Hey.

I have some keying stuff to do, and I have this strange Bluescreen here. When I saw it I was like "no problem", but somehow no IBK and no Keylight give me really good results. Before I end up rotoing, maybe you have an idea how to get good results from this one? Maybe my settings for the IBK or Keylight are not the best, though I am very familiar with it and in the past I had much more worse bluescreens to deal with where the IBK/Keylight worked.

I attached a sample exr. Maybe you have an idea 🙂

Thx!

XYZ coords of a plane – MEL ?

Hello, simple description:

Imagine you had a plane and it was subdivided x & y by arbitrary amounts – you then animated this plane through maya 3D space over time:

How can I get Maya to output a file (.txt .xml or .tiff even) that gives each subdivisions centre point on the planes position in 3D space ?

Slightly more detailed description>> So imagine a square plane 2×2 units large created flat centred at the origin was subdivided by 2 in each x and y so it was now defined by 4 1×1 squares. The planes top left subdivided square would have a centre at -0.5, 0, -0.5 (XYZ) (the original top left that is, it is free to rotate or move however and no longer be ‘top left’).

So my text file for this first frame would be:

-0.5, 0, -0.5 (top left)
0.5, 0, -0.5 (top right)
-0.5, 0, 0.5 (bot left)
0.5, 0, 0.5 (bot right)

and if I were to move the subdivided square – I dunno, pivot 90deg around its ‘top’ edge so it was standing up the next output would be:

-0.5, 0.5, 1 (top left)
0.5, 0.5, 1 (top right)
-0.5, 1.5, 1 (bot left)
0.5, 1.5, 1 (bot right)

You’ll notice I used a typical scheme where you read from top left to right then down to bot right and had the x y z values tab delimited and the subdivision position line delimited. This is just an example (I got hose numbers just by eyeballing it).

I’d want much more subdivisions in reality and deform the plane also, importantly:

Could it be done with an nCloth ??

I may as well be a complete beginner with maya and programming, but have a little experience in both a long while ago, should with a struggle be able to nut it out :wip: , but any hints or similar programming re. this kind of carry on would be *greatly appreciated*

MEL ?? possibly within the app UI itself ?

:thanks:

A question for recruiters

Hi everyone,

I am an Indian compositor with almost 5 years of experience working in India. I want to work abroad but inspite of my experience on Hollywood movies, I do not get a job in western countries like UK, USA, Canada, Australia etc.

For a moment, if we consider that my resume and show reel are good then what is the other problem that stops recruiters from hiring me? I mean technical problems – work permit, visa etc. I really do not want to settle abroad or take anyone’s job but I came into this field to work on big hollywood movies and I can’t? Just because my passport says ‘India’? Hardly any hi-end compositing work comes to India and I want to do hi-end compositing. I just want to gain some international experience, to see how the big ones operate. Can any of the recruiters here advice me on how to go about it? Do I need to upgrade myself? Do I need to get an education from a western country? How do I prove myself worthy?

Working in broadcast commercials

Hey guys, I was wondering, to work in commercials doing motion graphics/compositing, would you recommend california or New york?

The question came up because a lot of people consider NY the center os publicity and commercials.
