Review: PD Player

At first glance PDPlayer may seem like a basic frame sequence player, but you will soon realize that this is a very powerful tool.div class=”feedflare”

IBM Data Anthem

IBM_Data_Anthem_01
An epic particle motion feast. In “Data Anthem,” a new spot for IBM via Ogilvy & Mather NY, director James Frost of Zoo Films worked closely with The Mill NY’s Head of Design, Jeff Stevens, and his team, to create an environment that appears alive and buzzing with data. Frost filmed LIDAR scans of the script’s scenes, including cars on the freeway, a hospital gurney and doctors, and power lines spanning a city grid, with resulting footage of data viz. The Mill animated that static data in a compelling way to bring IBM’s story to life.

Help with Matte Painting

Hey, I am doing a simple matte painting and I am having trouble masking the image plane so it doesn’t look so sharp edged(circled in red.Pic0001)
My goal is to make the edge look as if it is fading off into the distance. I tried doing masking, but when I do it I get a black edge that doesn’t fit the scene. (pic0002)

Am I approaching this the wrong way? Idk, do you guys know?

Maya 2010 Camera movement into AE cs4

Hey guys!

I’m having problems with importing maya’s camera into AE,

The project is a 3d television with slight cam movement, and I want to be able to change what video is playing on the screen to what the client wants (in AE).

My issue is that I can’t match the Null to the TV screen, when imported into AE.

This is what i’ve done:

Export Iff sequence at 1280*1080, thats fine.

Then i make a .MA file with only the camera and a ‘null_01’ (the null is right in the middle of the TV screen). For the test the null doesn’t move, so i just bake the Camera information.

When bringing into AE the Null and camera both import in, but they aren’t syncing to the TV, they are off. Now in Maya I set my preferences to 30fps and in AE is says the imported Cam (or comp now) is 30 fps. I’ve tried this a few times, and I just cant understand why its not matching perfectly.

Please can anyone help? or has anyone had this problem too?? Thanks!

Megaforce for Kid Cudi: “Pursuit of Happiness”

This past week, a music video for Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness” featuring MGMT and Ratatat, had a short lived fling with the Internet as a wave of censorship swept it out of sight. There were rumors Cudi didn’t approve of his performance, and an alternate video for the same track (see it here), was created.

Fortunately, fans fought for the video’s return, which gives us the pleasure of sharing “Pursuit of Happiness” by French collective Megaforce.

With their trademark surreal, zero gravity camera trickery, Megaforce choreographs a somber Cudi rising and falling through a living room dream-space as he ponders the pursuit of happiness. The image of him as a dreamer, matched by Megaforce’s style and profound talent, gives this musician more authenticity than all the hot ladies and posses he could purchase for a more mainstream video.
