Boujou C4D help.

Hey I am trying to export from Boujou and have it set up properly in C4D.

The first problem I am having is that the point cloud does not animate when I bring it in. I know I don’t need the cloud but I know that since it isn’t moving. The camera isn’t as well.

Second. I dont know if my scale is off or something. However I keep messing with it and it changes. But the point cloud is in the far distance compared to where it should be, and when I try and adjust the cameras Zoom nothing happens.

I am using Boujou 5 and Cinema 4d 11.5.

And thank you to all in advance, I really need help as quick as possible.

Puppet & DeeX Shaders – How do I use it for my rendering pipeline?

I am trying to figure out a rendering pipeline that would be robust enough to handle jobs with refractions and transparencies etc etc and what cannot be achieved with them and what should be avoided.

We are using Maya2010 with Pavel Shaders followed by DeeX shaders. I usually use mostly Mia_X_passes shaders exclusively and then comp in Nuke. I want to use EXR for these layers if possible.

I’ve run many tests and combinations but always seem to be having problems. Like i still can’t get a shadow pass going with the DeeXshaders. I am trying to get these layers generally –

Diffuse Result
Shadow Result
Specular Result
Reflection Result
Refraction Result
Ambient Occlusion Result
2D Motion Vector Result
Indirect Result
Depth of Field Pass

I assume the above is all I need to re-create a beauty pass and have control of the shot right? I am embarrassed to say that I still can’t get these things figured out and I really don’t know what I am doing anymore so please do be specific.

Things such as the Depth of field pass. I seem to be able to get it using the standard render layer passes that comes with Maya2010 but I want to streamline everything and not be so lost. In the render settings does "ticking" the z-depth matter if we are rendering a zdepth in the Deex buffer writer? Which passes must be 32bit and which must be 16bit?

Do you guys use the DeeX shader with p_open_exr or just EXR(mi). Why is it that in nuke I usually don’t get all the layers, sometimes their just blank. What do you do to get the above layers?

Thanks guys. Your lost render passes dude.
And I am aware that Maya2011 is supposed to solve the Shadow pass issue but I dont think we are upgrading anytime soon =(

Exporting an anaglyph from Nuke

So I’m doing this project and I need to do some cheesy red-blue anaglyph 3D.

I’ve figured out most of the workflow, but I can’t figure out how to render a file with the anaglyph data baked into it. I don’t need 2 seperate views, I just want it to have the red-blue seperation baked into the file so I can pass it off to the video producers.

When I try to render it out as a quicktime it gives me an error saying "write1 cannot be executed for multiple views." I just want it to render out what’s showing up in the viewer. Any ideas?

Motion Vectors out of Maya for Nuke

I think my brain is going to explode. I’ve read so many posts about people’s solutions and problems with Motion Vectors in nuke, but I can’t seem to find any that actually works for.

My scene is a tentacle moving around – as well as a camera moving around it. I am trying to export the motion vector data from maya to do the post compositing motion blur but I can’t find a suitable shader to apply. I tried the lm_2MV shader with no luck, tried the mv2DToxik but am getting very weird results, tried the 3d and normalized 2d as well.

The problem with the 3D blur is that it is giving me more than just Red and Green. The problem with the normalized 2d is that the values are all within .001 of eachother inside Nuke (the image looks completely yellow) and it has a grey background, which I suppose can be matted out with an alpha. The mv2DToxik pass is like a rainbow on crack.

What am I doing wrong? Maybe someone out there has figured out a good way to get motion blur inside of nuke from Maya2010? RSMB doesn’t work well for my scene either.

Nuke 6 & QMaster – anyone got it to work?

Hi everybody,

Been trying to get Nuke 6 to play with qmaster – but it keeps failing. The log says it fails to flatten the mov file (trying to render to quicktime).

Any suggestions?

TIA

Verizon Makes The Best of Winter With Absolute

[NEWS=”http://www.cgnews.com/wp-content/uploads/verizon_players_thumb.jpg”]24555[/NEWS]Winter can be tough – snow, ice and perpetual darkness are an invitation to stay safe and warm indoors. But recreating the winter elements is an awesome challenge for a post house, as Absolute shows in a recent spot promoting the NHL Mobile feature for Verizon Wireless.

Tarmac, finished in collaboration with McCann Erikson and Believe Media, starts with a panoramic shot of a snowbound airport and then switches to an interior view of the terminal, where crowds of weary travellers prepare to hunker down for the evening after their flights are cancelled.

‘It’s a solid sheet of ice out there’, the airline announces. Two marooned and opposing NHL teams –the Washington Capitals and the Philadelphia Flyers – are hardly content to simply sit out the storm, however, and they soon lace up their skates for an impromptu outdoor hockey match, skating ferociously beneath the wings of an immobile airliner while passing the puck around a mobile obstacle course of airport vehicles.

Absolute, led by CG Artist Minh Nguyen Ba, brought this winter wonderland to life by creating the icy tarmac, the zooming hockey puck, and the players skates in CG.

Lead Flame ops Dirk Greene and Daniel Morris led a team that created the snow FX populating the outdoor environment. Additional FX included the creation of a stack of errant suitcases for one daring hockey player to leap in his pursuit of the puck.

Founded in 2004 Absolute is a high-end VFX studio working within the commercial, emerging media, music video, and film communities. With offices in New York and London, Absolute over the years has collected numerous industry accolades including two BTAA awards, a D&AD pencil, a Cannes Lion, an APA Collection Diamond, three Andy wins and an MTV video statue.

After Effects cineon question

I’ve got an idea. I wanna write my password in an image, in after effects (could use photoshop too, but im not too good at ps). i make the font completely white, then I add a background, which is also white. Actually, it’s brighter, its at 2. Meaning 200% white. Now, my password would now be impossible to see by the human eye, but the information is there. If i render this to a CD or something, I can later open the image, and turn down the exposure. You see where I’m going with this? The text would now be “see-able”. But my problem is, what image format supports 32 bpc, and colors higher than 1? Even TIFF clips at one. I’ve heard cineon, but no matter the settings i put it at, it clips at one when I render -.-
I need a format that keeps all information, though you can’t see it. Or any tips with the cineon settings would also be nice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and please, send it to my email: tarjei.skjaerset@hotmail.com

You got the picture? my nosey friends would find the image file wich says “Facebook password”, or what ever, but they’d never figure it out. I think hiding the password in plain sight is better than a postIT note under my desk, anyway.

Thank you in advance.
