best workflow?

I have 250 audio clips that need to be synced up with 5D h264 footage.
I not sure which way would be faster & make more sense.
Should I edit the movie, put it all together and THEN audio sync THOSE clips?

OR
Audio sync all 250 clips and have them ready for editing?
I keep thinking edit first,then sync but that means my slate board clapper would be cut out on the timeline on a edited movie.
