Key Purpose of the Job

Provide general editorial assistance over multiple shows and departments

Needs To Do

* Scanning and printing of storyboards/ reference material
* Collating digitizing and exporting of video reference material
* Compiling material on CD, DVD or Tape for clients and internal use
* Managing and maintaining DNegs internal reference library
* Encoding and transcoding of material using Compressor and other tools
* Prepare showreel material for Artists post show
* Maintaining databases (Filemaker &in-house databases)

Needs To Know

* Needs to have some experience of film or video editing
* Be well versed in using Final Cut Pro, Compressor and DVD Studio Pro
* Possess basic Photoshop skills
* Have a base understanding of video codecs and file formats
* Good IT skills, networking

DNEG Skills Matrix

It is the responsibility of the Editorial assistant to:

Understand Editorials role in DNeg and its key responsibilities and stages during and post show.
Understand the basic VFX process within DNeg and its terminology and each department’s role.
To become skilled in the following areas and apply them to everyday tasks:

Admin skills

Ireq
Understand what Ireq is used for in the facility
Must be able to start and use Ireq on a mac or Linux computer
Must be able to search the Dailies Viewer for specific shots, shows etc
Must be able to search the Render Viewer and be able to create Showreel Quicktimes
Must be able to search shot viewer and be able to update basic line up information

Filemaker Pro
Be able to open a remote database on Whale
Search existing records in video reference Library
Create new records in video reference library
Amend existing records in video reference library

Data
Request Restores and Backups of data from Studio
Search for Data using Image Sequence Lister

Technical Skills

Final Cut Pro
Set up projects and sequences in Final Cut Pro to DNeg or client specs
Project data management skills
Log and Transfer material from tape less cameras
Capture footage from external video sources
Perform inverse telecine on footage if required
Export video files to quicktime movies
Have a firm grasp of film and video resolutions, frame rates and aspect ratios

Image Prep
Understand all image formats used at DNeg
Must be able to resize and reformat an EXR to JPG or other image format using appropriate software
Must be able to apply burn in’s to images on request
Setup up software for batch conversions
Have a basic understanding of colour space
Possess a firm understanding of Iresize, Graphic Converter and Photoshop
Possess full understanding of how to scan and print images using the correct settings

Compressor
Setup an encoding job using pre-made droplets
Create new encoding profile
Create a new encoding droplet
Apply burn in’s to material if required

Linux
Possess knowledge of how to set up a computer for a specific show using DNSHOW
Must be able demonstrate a basic understanding of linux and commands such as su, cd, ls, df, du, pid.

Network
Have an understanding of DNeg servers and their usage. E.g. jobs, iconvd and editorial servers
Be able to confidently navigate the network on Mac, PC and Linux computers
Understand DNEG folder and naming conventions
