Digital Matte Artist

SUMMARY:
Under general supervision; designs, develops, and produces large and/or small-scale digital matte paintings for use in feature films or other applications.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:
– Produce 2D elements, digital paintings and complete final shots to a very high standard for scenic backdrops and set-extensions.
– Digital Painting of surface details, texture maps, and patterns to be used in conjunction with 3D shaders and 3D environments.
– Thorough knowledge of the tools and ability to use such tools that apply to Photoshop.
– Full understanding of how displacement, specularity and texture maps will affect an object for shading.

– Solid understanding of UV texturing and camera mapping techniques.
– Artistic flexibility, versatility, ability to match and/or adapt painting style to suit a range of production designs.
– Creative problem solving.
– Driven by the desire to do innovative, high quality work.
– Must have good understanding of both technical and creative aspect of projects.
– Strong design, composition and colour skills.
– Ability to work and finish tasks unsupervised, as well as in a team setting.
– Ability to complete paint projects according to the expectations and budgets implemented by Intelligent Creatures.
– Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
– Skill, knowledge and understanding of visual effects, production and implementation.

– Take direction from Visual Effects Supervisor, and Matte Painting Lead.
