first reel – first hello

Hi guys,

I’ve been following vfxtalk for a while, posted few times, but I never introduced myself. The reason was simple: I had no reel and I didn’t want to say hello as a reelless compositor. 🙂

My name is Gyuri Szlamka. I currently live in Budapest and work at the largest vfx house in Hungary. I started compositing in 2007. My primary tool is Autodesk Flint, but I plan to learn Nuke in the close future.

Please enjoy and criticize my reel. It shows a variety of work done by myself or as part of our team.

I am currently looking for my first job in the London area possibly as a tech runner or do you think my work is good enough to be considered for a junior artist position? my eventual career ambition is to become a VFX supervisor

Film Scoring Reel 2009

Please pardon the non-visual effects nature of this post. I just figured some people might be interested in other types of reels/portfolios. I’m sure lots of other people on this forum have their own examples!

The two short films were written, produced, edited, and scored in 48 hours for Ohio University’s 48-hour Shootout Competition. I cut and scored them both. The two excerpts are projects from an advanced narrative production class.

Compositing reel 2009 – Tom Wagener

I also posted this on the beginners’ talk forum, so my apologies if you saw this already. I submitted this reel at SIGGRAPH 2009 and got hired by Digital Domain as a comp intern a few weeks later. The reel is only part of the qualification, of course, and I realize that this isn’t the best reel ever.

Feel free to critique, etc! Always looking for feedback. 🙂

Edit: btw, I don’t know what possessed me to make this so long (stupid ego, probably), but when I get a chance, I plan to cut it down to about 2 minutes.
