Company 3 Makes a Slam Dunk for Converse

Post production facility provides VFX, finishing and color grading for iconic ad

New York, NY – Award-winning post production house Company 3 recently completed work on "The Procession" for Converse via ad agency Anomaly NYC for the company’s fall 2010 brand campaign. The commercial, which broke nationally September 26, pays homage to the legends of Converse’s past, present and future, showcasing the iconic Star Chevron mark and giving a nod to the company’s connection to the worlds of sport, music and culture which has helped define the brand for decades.

Gritty and raw, the :60 spot was directed by award-winning filmmaker Antoine Fuqua of Anonymous Content. The ad stars basketball legend Julius "Dr. J" Erving; Carlos Arroyo of the Miami Heat; musicians Jim Jones and Doug E Fresh; legendary ball-handler God Shammgod and Harlem streetball player Adrian "A-Butta" Walton; Converse skaters Kenny Anderson, Sammy Baca, Rune Glifberg and Eli Reed; all set to the thunderous "Hello Operator" by alternative rock band The White Stripes.

Tom McCullough at Company 3 NY provided VFX and compositing for the spot, recreating the celebrated basketball classic with Dr. J with matte paintings, background replacement and crowd duplication. Color grading was performed by colorist Tim Masick, and editing handled by Lucas Eskin from sister company Beast.

"A lot of creativity and effort went into this project," McCullough said. "Although the spot was very labor-intensive, it was exciting to be able to recreate this iconic moment in basketball history, and we’re incredibly pleased with the results."

"Another great Company 3 experience," commented Andrew Loevenguth, Anomaly’s head of production. "There’s a reason we keep coming back to Company 3, and with people like Tom McCullough and Angela Lupo working on our projects, anything is possible and nothing is impossible."

Shot entirely against green screen on a shoestring budget. Now everybody can watch the full 92 minutes for free on the web at www.snowblind-film.com

SNOWBLIND – "The Post-Apocalyptic Spaghetti Western" was shot by a posse of German movie enthusiasts who were united by their strong love for 70s and 80s grindhouse cinema. With their daring concept of "cowboys with motorbikes" they were able to draw a lot of professionals to both sides of the camera. A cast of fresh talents from the US, the UK, Australia, Ireland and even South Africa make the film truly stand out. And Wim Wenders, one of Germany’ most renowned directors, crowns the film with one of his very rare guest appearances as an actor.

Snowblind was produced entirely on private funds, and used the help of the online community "wreckamovie.com", which was funded by the makers of internet phenomenon "Star Wreck".

After 18 months of hard work, Snowblind had it’s world premiere on the 20st Emden International Film Festival on the 7th of June 2010. Since then, the film has toured several countries, winning "Best International Picture" at Belfast’s Yellow Fever International Film Festival.

NOW, Snowblind will be released world-wide on the internet, with the SD version being available for free through partners like YouTube, RapidShare and WasabiTV.com.au

Thanks to the work of its community, Snowblind has subtitles in 7 languages available from the start which can be activated at the push of a button, thanks to YouTube’s CC-feature.

With this new way of distribution, independent film making has come full circle. The force behind a project powered by sheer ehthusiasm is made most apparent by the fact that a stereseoscopic 3D version is also in the works, nearing its completion. SNOWBLIND 3D is scheduled for a december release and will again be made available through internet and IPTV.

Major Developments @ Aqsis

Hi Everyone,

I’d like to point any interested parties at the latest work on the Aqsis renderer.

http://blog.aqsis.org/2010/11/intera…-aqsis-20.html

One of the negative points of comparison that has always been that of speed, Aqsis is perceived, often correctly, as being significantly slower than alternative RenderMan compatible renderers. We, specifically Chris Foster, have been working to address that. This post and screencast, constitute the first demonstrable results of this work. While there is some way to go before this work is fully capable and integrated back into the core product, it is clear to see that significant progress has been made in this area.

We welcome all feedback and questions, you can post on the blog, visit our forums (http://community.aqsis.org) or come and speak with us in the #aqsis IRC room on irc.freenode.net (or visit http://chat.aqsis.org).

Cheers

Paul Gregory

Beast Makes a Full Court Press for Converse

New York, NY – Beast, one of the country’s top editorial facilities, recently completed work on “The Procession” for Converse via ad agency Anomaly NYC for the company’s fall 2010 brand campaign.

Lucas Eskin at Beast Los Angeles edited the spot, working with the director in Los Angeles before flying out to New York to meet with the agency team and complete the spot at Beast’s New York location. Tom McCullough of sister company Company 3 provided VFX and compositing for the project, and color grading was performed by CO3 colorist Tim Masick.

“Creatively, this was an incredibly rewarding project to work on,” Eskin said. “The agency handed off a lot of great material for me to work with, and it turned out to be a really fun, energetic spot. And I really enjoyed working with the Anomaly team at Beast NY.”

“Working with Beast was a great experience,” commented Andrew Loevenguth, Anomaly’s head of production. “Mike Byrne and I were able to work with Lucas again, and the job couldn’t have gone any smoother. And it didn’t matter that he was LA-based–everything was where it needed to be and everything got done the way we wanted it. Lucas is a master editor.”
