Maya/Houdini Effects Developer/Artist

Requirements:

* Strong vector, matrix, vector field ( CFD ) and physics math skills with the ability to derive unique solutions to novel
effects problems
* Ability to break a complex task into simpler subtasks
* a good understanding of computer resources, like memory and storage
* expert production knowledge
* Unforgiving attention to detail and strong image composition skills
* Ability to create custom python, mel or hscripts scripts
* Understanding of a float-based and 10bit log based color pipeline
* Python Shell and Linux OS scripting
* +3 years of production experience is a plus
* Renderman shading language and expert knowledge of the Renderman Interface ( RIB )
* C and C++ is plus ( Maya API or Houdini SDK )
* excellent communication skills
* Ability to work in a team environment.

VFX Compositing Supervisor

The compositing supervisor will take ownership of a team of Nuke compositors, ensuring that they are moving smoothly through shots. Key to the position is the ability to problem-solve specific compositing issues and educate individual compositors on the solutions.

The compositing supervisor will be responsible for ensuring all shot notes have been addressed prior to review.

Essential Skills
• The ability to lead a team with efficiency but also compassion. We value the lives of out compositors and are interested in mentoring, not oppressing.
• A high-level solid, intuitive understanding of Nuke and its 3D environment
• A thorough comprehension of the underlying principles of compositing
• At least two years experience supervising compositors

Desirable Skills
• Previous experience in stereoscopic production
• Knowledge of gizmo creation process and Python scripting
• Knowledge of matchmoving processes and limitations
• Experience with 3D animation packages
• Experience with the shotgun tracking system

Concept Design Artist & storyboard

Description

Silkroading is the only studio doing dome production in China, based in Beijing. (www.silkroading.com) The production team has already been involved with projects such as Dunhuang Mogao Caves.

You will produce concept art for animations, working on character and environmental design and creat storyboad. You will also have to provide creative documents to support the VFX Supervisor’s artistic vision.

You’ll be joining a team of complementary talent where you will need to be pro-active and a strong communicator.

The production department produces high quality work at all times and looks to keep that constant to satisfy supervisors and client needs.

Technical skills

-Ability to switch between different quality renders : hand sketch drawing/colour sketch on photoshop/high end realistic renders on Photoshop.
-Master at Photoshop
-Good knowledge of photography
-Matte painting experience and other software skills would be an advantage.

General skills:

-Thorough understanding of digital/traditional and Graphic art techniques.
– Ability to evaluate with precision the time you need to execute a task .
– Ability to multi-task and to adapt easily to change.
– Previous experience in the film industry is always better but not essential.
– An interest in stories and how to tell them.

Overall Purpose and Objective

  • Perform and manage inter-office data transfers

• Be a proficient user and have an indepth technical knowledge of Maya creating tools and utilizing work flows for both the art and animation teams respectively.
• Be a problem solver and to be able to solve all technical issue that might arise and to be able dispense guidance to the art team on all technical aspects of the art/animation disciplines.
• Unreal 3 experience – is very advantageous but is not essential.
• Have a proven track record in creating and maintaining both character and facial Rigs.
• MEL scripting is a bonus.

MPC Vancouver: CG Supervisor

Position Summary:

Works closely with the VFX Supervisor to identify potential strategies, assess technical options and evaluate production schedules. Participates as a leader and hands-on contributor through all stages of Pre and Post Production.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working with the VFX Supervisor, Leads and Heads of Departments, define the creative and technical approach for the show
  • Identify areas of R&D required for the show
  • Work with Production to manage the day to day running of the team
  • Work with Production to evaluate artist schedules ensuring they are realistic and achievable
  • Attend desk rounds with all members of the team on a regular basis
  • Attend dailies sessions with the team to give feedback / approvals
  • Meet with the Leads on the show on a regular basis to identify inefficiencies or technical problems with the tool set and pipeline, and put in place a plan of action to resolve such issues
  • Ensure that all work carried out on the show fits within MPC’s pipeline where possible.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4 years of CG leadership experience using Maya and Renderman on live-action commercial or feature film productions
  • Strong working knowledge of 3D software packages and pipelines
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • An experienced and honed creative eye
  • Knowledge of the entire production process, including stage shooting is preferred
  • Ability to successfully delegate, mentor and manage people and projects
  • Ability to understand client approval process
  • Must have a sense of strong team dynamics and a positive morale generating style
