Preferred skills:

Advanced Keying knowledge (green screen, blue screen, purple screen.. just know how to pull a matte)
Tracking. Knowledge of Mocha Pro, and Nuke’s 3d tracking
Roto – Must know how to quickly and efficiently roto complex scenes
Projection knowledge is a plus
Attention to detail
Willing and able to work in a team environment
Excels under pressure and tight deadlines
Positive and pro active
Able to take a shot from start to finish.

Key Purpose of the Job:

The Senior Rigger is responsible for creating animation rigs for characters, creatures, props and vehicles. The role may require the implementation of proprietary tools to aid in the creation of a rig. The Rigger must collaborate with the CG Lead and the Animation Lead to develop the most suitable rigging solutions.

Needs to Do

• Work closely with the CG Lead to ensure that the rig is pipeline friendly for texturing, lighting and rendering.
• Work with the Animation Lead/Supervisor to develop an intuitive and responsive rig for each character.
• Work with The Rigging Lead to meet project schedules and manage their time to the successful delivery of rigs within those schedules.
• Communicate with the Modelling Department to ensure that models are suitable for rigging.
• Communicate with the R&D Department where necessary to effectively help develop the tools and technology to aid in delivering high-quality rigs.

Needs to Know

• 5+ years CG experience, ideally within feature films
• Ability to perform visual and analytical problem solving in 3-dimensional space, including the ability to accurately interpret 3D layouts and analyse 3D form.
• Ability to problem solve and predict potential problems with assigned tasks.
• A thorough knowledge of Maya and Mel

Pipeline Lead/Developer

Weta Productions, creators of children’s animated shows ‘Jane and the Dragon’ and ‘The Wot Wots’ is expanding and we’re looking for a talented Pipeline Developer to join the team and further develop our existing pipeline.

Although the creation and production of 3D animated children’s television will remain the primary focus, we are developing the facility to take on all aspects of CG and VFX work for television and smaller budget feature films.

As Pipeline Lead you will be required to continue to develop and oversee the production pipeline; maintain an overall view of the entire workflow of the facility; and work closely with the VFX Supervisor and other department leads to ensure a tight, efficient and flexible pipeline.

You will be responsible for development of tools and pipeline code; management of the production database; and, together with the IT Department, management of the file servers, storage requirements and render farm for the facility.

You must have a solid understanding of Visual Effects and CG Animation processes and workflows; be proficient in MEL scripting and Python; and display a high level of innovative thinking and problem solving skills. Experience with Renderman and associated pipelines is desirable and C++ programming and a knowledge of Maya’s API would be an advantage. You may also be required to carry out work on a specific project or projects as CG Lead or Shots Lead.

Ideally you will have relevant qualifications and relevant industry experience, preferably in television production. You need to enjoy working as part of a close knit team and possess excellent communication skills.
