DEPARTMENT NAME: Animation / Production
Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced character designer to design great characters from an existing feature CG project, now being produced as a CG television series for cable distribution. The ideal candidate will bring excellent knowledge of animation design, illustration, as well as designing characters for CG productions. You will work with a collaborative, small team of artists, animators, and will interact directly with Art Director.

Qualifications:

  • A 2D Portfolio featuring strong character poses, model sheets, character turns, and figure drawing.
  • An Animation Reel showing your designs in motion
  • Previous Studio Experience
  • BFA preferred

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge designing characters for CG
  • Expert Knowledge of anatomy
  • Usage of the body and face to convey emotion
  • Knowledge of setting up/symbolizing character turnarounds and model sheets in Flash
  • Can work in pre-existing styles
  • Can hit deadlines and take direction remotely

Preferred skills:

  • Advanced Photoshop knowledge
  • Advanced Illustrator knowledge

Work Experience
2 to 4 years previous experience as a Character Designer
Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification

High School diploma required.
BS/BA degree preferred.

• Problem-solving and strong organizational skills
• Fluent knowledge of Flame operations (UNIX commands)

Overall Purpose and Objective

The Sr Stereo (3D) Compositor is responsible for combining live action and computer generated elements by using various techniques to artistically blend together elements and ensure each shot is a seamless stereoscopic image.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform all tasks associated with the compositing process: incorporating roto, matte extraction, layering of elements, color correction, 2D and 3D tracking
  • Ability to perform digital matte painting, texture painting, or paint
  • Integrate cg elements and matte paintings into live action or CG Animated plates
  • Take creative direction from leads and/or stereographer
  • Present work clearly in dailies and walkthroughs and respond to supervisor in a timely fashion
  • Work with other 3D Depth Artists to convert 2D media into high quality Stereoscopic 3D on a timely basis

Job Requirements

  • Must have thorough knowledge and ability to use Nuke and Photoshop
  • Familiar with Rotoscopy, particularly Silhouette and Mocha Pro
  • Excellent understanding of VFX and stereography
  • Ability to understand and interpret the creative requirements in order to create an accurate representation of stereoscopy
  • Linux knowledge a plus
  • Ability to take direction and structure working practice so that design changes can be efficiently made
  • Desire to learn from others and to take on increasingly challenging shots
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have excellent binocular vision
  • Accredited post secondary school compositing course or equivalent a plus
  • 2-5+ years of previous experience in VFX compositing, 6+ months of stereo conversion experience

MPC Vancouver: Production Accountant

Position Summary:

The Production Accountant is primarily responsible for tracking actual project costs and forecasting project ultimates for Vancouver. This role reports directly to the Head of MPC Film, Vancouver and provides financial support to all producers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare weekly film cost reports using actual timesheet data along with forecasted crewing estimates from the producers and department heads
  • Controlling, recording and reconciling costs to ensure adherence to cost limits
  • Provide analysis surrounding weekly variances by department and fluctuations in estimated total costs, estimated profit margins and estimated costs to complete by project
  • Liaise with senior management to develop new systems for monitoring and controlling all costs on film jobs
  • Work with producers and finance team to invoice film clients and track all billings/receivables
  • Work with producers to track all change orders and update estimates for total project revenue
  • Assist producers with film project bids and change orders
  • Compare and analyze bid days/costs against actual days/costs per project
  • Work with finance team to provide monthly revenue estimates
  • Control Production finance tracking templates and ensure all productions run the same documents
  • Provide the following weekly reports
    • Show P&L’s
    • Seat Forecast
    • MSS Departmental Summary
    • Various ad hoc analysis as required

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-7 years production accounting/finance experience; VFX knowledge preferred
  • Bachelors degree
  • Must be able to work independently and communicate effectively in a fast-paced production environment
  • Must be proficient with Excel and able to create and work in complex financial models
