Render Wrangler
The role offers the successful candidate the potential to advance technical skills, offers experience with state-of-the-art technology and opportunity to learn from specialist digital media colleagues.

Overview
This is a varied role to support the daily activities of a busy Lighting and FX team. As a Render Wrangler you would work with the team overseeing activity on the render farm, assisting artists with render issues and controlling the priority of work on the farm. The team is responsible for managing the resources for the current roster of shows, monitoring of renders and image processes, and some data management.

Key Accountabilities
– Render queue management
– Quality control of images, error checking and troubleshooting a wide variety of technical problems.
– Communication with Producers, Data Ops, Systems and Render Engineer departments across both Vancouver and London
– Creating and distributing daily render reports
– Assisting with data management
– Scripting tools to automate common tasks and improve workflow.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

– An interest in developing skills and progress within a visual effects company
– Ability to learn quickly and think on your feet is essential
– Good communication and team working skills.
– Accuracy and attention to detail
– Ability to use initiative and prioritize work loads
– Problem solving
– Willingness to work early morning and weekend shifts during peak periods

Maya Instructor needed

The Digital Animation & Visual Effects school at Universal Studios Orlando (The DAVE School) is looking for a SENIOR MAYA INSTRUCTOR & Curriculum Designer.

The Ideal candidate will be able to co-design and implement a 5-hour a day, 5-day a week, 12-week course. This course must provide a solid overview of the major functions in MAYA to students who have already completed a comprehensive program in Lightwave. As you can imagine Lightwave experience is a BIG plus. In time you will transition to providing deeper training is one specific area of expertise such as asset creation, animation, or lighting & rending.

This is a teaching job, not a supervisory position. Prior teaching experience and studio work is helpful. Finalists will be required to present a “sample” lecture before a committee of existing instructors.

Primary Responsibilities
·Using an array of commercial and proprietary lighting tools to match CG lighting to on-set lighting
·Producing test and final renders of all CG elements
·Creating working comps for review by the supervision team
·Assisting and developing the look of a shot or sequence with the supervision team
·Working in partnership with compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard.

Requirements:
·Proven production lighting experience
·Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies related to CG rendering and compositing

Compositor – Los Angeles

A LA based VFX studio is currently looking for compositors to join their ranks to start immediately.

Essential Functions:

-Demonstrate a broad range of compositing abilities and determine the best approach to solve compositing challenges
-Report to the Compositing Supervisor for the overall look, attitude and style of the production
-Attend and actively participate in team / production meetings
-Meet project deadlines and targets, as set by project leads and the production department.

Applicants should have a minimum of 1 year feature film compositing experience using Nuke.

A CG Supervisor serves as a key member of the production’s leadership team. This individual is responsible for ensuring that the studio’s workflow and pipeline work effectively to meet the creative quality of the project within the established project schedule.

What you can expect:

  • Act as the primary technical leadership on the project
  • Determines technical approaches needed to achieve desired look and behaviors of the production’s assets within agreed on technical pipeline
  • Identifies, defines, prioritizes and oversees the implementation of tools that automate production tasks
  • Assist the team in debugging problematic shots and assist in optimizing shots for efficiency
  • Deliver final shots that are creatively and technically excellent
  • Be actively involved in mentoring juniors throughout productions
  • Builds consensus among technology, creative and production management to create efficiencies
  • Serves as key technical expert on productions

What we require:

  • 5 years of professional production experience in high-end feature film work
  • A strong combined technical and creative background in EFFECTS
  • Is a proven leader in setting direction for a production and for inspiring and motivating production staff
  • Must have a positive, team approach and be able to work well with a wide range of personality types
  • Extensive knowledge of computer animation packages – Maya, 3Delight and Nuke preferred but not required
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages (such as python, C++, etc.) is a plus
