Job Description: Compositor

·Working closely with Visual Effects Supervisors, Producers and the Compositing Supervisor, the Compositor will design, develop and produce large and/or small-scale digital composites for use in feature films,
·Will determine best approach to solve compositing challenges and develop final overall look that far exceeds client expectations,
·Candidate will perform tasks such as tracking, matte extraction, colour correction, paint fixes, roto and assembly of live action and 3D elements.

Qualifications:

·Must have at least 2 years experience in compositing digital visual effects for feature film,
·Must have thorough knowledge and ability to use the tools that produce Digital Composites such as NUKE, Shake, Combustion, Flame and Photoshop,
·Must present a show reel highlighting candidate’s eye for colour, lighting, attention to detail and composition,
·The candidate must have the ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines
·Strong communication skills are critical,
·Candidate must be able to work within a team environment,
·3D and/or on-set production experience is desirable.

We have an immediate need for a Character Rigging TD on a feature film project.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and create animator friendly rigs that work with Maya’s referencing pipeline
  • Work with Modeling to create a model that meets technical needs
  • Work with R&D to design, debug and evaluate new tools
  • Collaborate with animators to design motion controls
  • Develop and maintain character motion and deformation systems
  • Develop new techniques and processes to solve character production challenges
  • Write utility scripts and programs to streamline the setup process
  • Communicate information about new tools and techniques to others
  • Work with production management to prioritize tasks
  • Keep supervisors informed of progress, changes, roadblocks and other critical issues



Qualifications:

  • 3 years professional experience rigging characters for animation
  • Previous experience Rigging in Houdini
  • Excellent MEL scripting capabilities.
  • Training in visual arts and understanding of form, geometry and movement
  • Knowledge of academics such as linear algebra, trigonometry, geometry, calculus and differential geometry
  • Knowledge in programming and software development skills
  • Linux experience desired
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to function well in a team environment and be detail oriented

TDs will be responsible for the design and implementation of tools and techniques that will assist the artists and directors in the current production.

The position requires strong technical and communication skills, including an understanding of software design and production work flow. The successful applicant will work with artists & supervisors to help design, refine and implement pipeline procedures & Artist’s tools.

Experience and skills required

· 2+ years experience as a Technical Director.
· Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
· Working experience with one or more professional graphics packages, in particular Maya, 3DsMax, as well as Digital Fusion.
· An Understanding of 3D production pipelines from a technical standpoint is a must.
· Practical knowledge of Mel Required.
· Knowledge of Max Script & Python is an advantage.
· Working Knowledge of 3DsMax is a plus.

Key Purpose of the Job:

Provide support to TDs and CG supervisors in the smooth running of shots through a show pipeline.

Needs to Do

ATDs are tasked with monitoring disk usage, managing throughput on the render farm and building and
maintaining elements of the show pipeline.

Needs to Know

• A good knowledge of Maya is required, as well as a good working knowledge of Python and shell
scripting. Houdini, C or C++ is a welcome bonus.
• A degree or equivalent in Computer Graphics, Computer Science or other related course
