Key Purpose of the Job:

The Rigger is responsible for creating animation rigs for characters, creatures, props and vehicles. The role may require the implementation of proprietary tools to aid in the creation of a rig. The Rigger must collaborate with the CG Lead and the Animation Lead to develop the most suitable rigging solutions.

Needs to Do

Work closely with the CG Lead to ensure that the rig is pipeline friendly for texturing, lighting and rendering.
Work with the Animation Lead/Supervisor to develop an intuitive and responsive rig for each character.
Work with The Rigging Lead to meet project schedules and manage their time to the successful delivery of rigs within those schedules.
Communicate with the Modelling Department to ensure that models are suitable for rigging.
Communicate with the R&D Department where necessary to effectively help develop the tools and technology to aid in delivering high-quality rigs.

Needs to Know

5+ years CG experience, ideally within feature films
Ability to perform visual and analytical problem solving in 3-dimensional space, including the ability to accurately interpret 3D layouts and analyse 3D form.
Ability to problem solve and predict potential problems with assigned tasks.
A thorough knowledge of Maya and Mel

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Report regularly to the Visual Effects Supervisor informing him/her of any concerns
· Identify to the Visual Effects Supervisor problems that could potentially present with respect to timelines and delivery schedules
· Respect and adapt to the Nerd Corps system of data storage and retrieval through the use of the in-house software
· Make sure that all work done is accounted for and entered in the tracking system (SPARCX)
· Communicate to Animators about elements that may be needed or used for their sequences
· Watch animatics of his/her episode for errors & shots missing composites, stay current with the show and what stage of production it is at
· Balance the creative needs, technical resources and time available

DUTIES

· Check Softimage XSI scene and setup render passes and partitions for rendering
· Check render results and flag improper images
· Composite shots for the show in a timely manner and try to get the most number of shots done in the time available
· Follow the creative direction of the production as communicated by the Visual Effects Supervisor.
· Work with the senior staff of the Visual Effects Team to learn as much as possible about the methods and software used when compositing

QUALIFICATIONS

· Basic understanding of 3D texturing, Modeling and Lighting
· Basic understanding of Compositing Methods
· Intermediate knowledge of SoftImage XSI; in particular XSI FX-Tree.
· Creative with timing and Color.

MySQL DB Administrator / Systems Development

Main Purpose of Job:

To ensure the ongoing smooth operation of MPC’s global production systems with particular specialisation in database systems, to develop them further to meet business needs whilst supporting use of database technologies throughout the organisation. In addition to these responsibilities you’d also be part of the Systems team developing and maintaining the department tools and libraries.
Key Tasks/duties:
·To take primary technical responsibility for our global enterprise DB server infrastructure
· Maintenance of production, development and test databases and provide user support
·Suggest performance/reliability enhancements and carry out performance trouble-shooting
·Monitor usage, forecast capacity requirements, plan upgrades and scalability improvements
·Work with the Backup Administrator to create regular, reliable, timely and viable backups
·Formulate and document a comprehensive disaster recovery plan
·Extensively test and benchmark changes before deployment in the production environment
·Support R&D with schema design, query optimisation and ad hoc problem solving
·Identify upcoming requirements, pre-empt, recommend and implement solutions
·Mentoring team members, end user documentation and ongoing education of staff
·Tool and Systems development projects e.g. writing wrapper scripts, building and installing software, maintaining and developing monitoring and support systems
·General software "troubleshooting" e.g. stracing for segfaults, helping with bugs and workarounds
Experience/Knowledge
·Significant and substantial background experience managing large and complex databases
·Experience working closely with Software Engineering and Systems Engineering staff
·Deep understanding of Linux, preferably Red Hat based and how the kernel and filesystem interact with DB performance
·Able to demonstrate knowledge and experience administering complex MySQL configurations in a production environment

Animation Director

Position: Animation Director

Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting the script/storyboard into images and sounds that will best convey the story and characters presented by the writer while maintaining a quality consistent with the respective series/production; plan and coordinate all the images and sounds that make up the show
  • Manage his/her animation team effectively and efficiently in order to complete the production on time


Duties:

·Ensure that the production for which he/she is responsible is completed on time
·Ensure the production meets the standard of quality set by the Producer and Supervising Director
·Consult with Animation Supervisor as to the technical feasibility of elements in the script and suggest production friendly solutions that will maintain the vision of the series
·Study scripts/storyboards and use these as a basis to design the strongest sequences possible given the resources available.
·Complete the final cut of the show and ensure that the editing serves the story and action of the production
·Manage a team of animators and consult with the Animation Supervisor to best assign work to animators based on their individual skills and strengths
·Direct and coordinate animation, instructing animators on the position and the angle of their shots, acting of the characters and the timing of their motions
·Work with VFX Supervisor to achieve quality consistent with other episodes in respective series
·Maximize the re-use of animation when the production schedule calls for it
·Overall, be aware of the show/series continuity
·Check in with the Animation Tracker and be aware of where each Animator is within their assignments (using “Sparcx”)
·Include AD in all relevant meetings to ensure show status is effectively communicated throughout production
·Direct and coordinate animation fixes and enhancements as per instructed by the Supervising Director

Qualifications:
·At least 2+ years in Directing for Television/Film
·Understanding of animation timing and posing
·Familiarity with 3D animation and the strengths and weaknesses of CGI animation

·Cut together the final storyboard animatic
·Work with Episodic Directors and comment/approve the final cut of the show and ensure that the editing serves the story and action of the production
·Direct and work with the Design, Visual Effects, Modeling and Episodic Directors throughout production in order to achieve show/series continuity and quality is maintained
·Be aware of the progress of each show and always be looking for production friendly solutions to ensure delivery deadlines are met
·Work with Voice Director, attend voice recordings and offer creative dialogue suggestions
·Attend sound mix sessions and make suggestions or recommendations for improvement
·Work with Music Composer in developing series musical theme
