RESPONSIBILITIES include performing tasks such as 2D tracking, matte extraction, rig removal/paint fixes, 3d camera projections, clean plate creation, grain matching, and spline based roto creation.

QUALIFICATIONS: Artist should have at least one year of experience working on feature films or HD Teleproductions. Artists must know Nuke, Shake, Combustion, and/or Motor. Los Angeles residents preferred.

SUBMISSIONS: Artists must submit show reel demonstrating their ability to produce tightly tracked rotos with motion blur as well as an ability to remove unwanted elements from a shot while preserving the original material. Artists must be able to take direction and work in a team focused environment. Good communication skills are a must. Requirements:
• Minimum 4 years of renowned feature film compositing experience
• A discerning eye for detail
• Expert knowledge of Nuke, some experience with a high-end 3d package or Nuke’s 3d features
• Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, architecture, graphic design, or similar art & design discipline
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner, and in a collaborative team environment

MPC Vancouver: Mid-level Environment TD

Position Summary:

A Mid-Level Environment Technical Director is responsible for helping to design and construct Environment rigs, along with general Environment tasks on whichever show he or she is currently assigned to.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior Environment TDs in the design and construction of Environment scenes.
  • Adequately document any specific method used on a show, ensuring that documentation is available to the Environment department as a whole.
  • Check renders and release to the Hub for the comp department to gather.
  • Update and release the Environment Packages to the Hub.
  • Regularly release dailies so that progress on a shot can be assessed.
  • Attend dailies sessions and obtain feedback on dailies from supervisors.
  • Report any day-to-day problems or concerns to the lead Environment TD on the show and any software issues to the appropriate support list.
  • Work with the Environment R&D support team to improve the feature set and stability of our toolset.
  • Improve his or her knowledge and understanding of MPC’s Environment toolset and pipeline.
  • Needs to be proactive and fairly autonomous.

Experience:

  • A Mid-Level Environment TD should have between two and three years experience in Environment work, either in commercials, TV or features. A generalist background would be preferred with a good understanding of all the 3D process from modelling to compositing.
  • Maya (or another 3D software)
  • Scripting (Mel and Python preferred but not essential)
  • Renderman (preferred but not essential)
  • Photoshop
  • NUKE (or any other compositing software).

Joining this ambitious company you will bring with you production experience and the ability to lead projects from start to finish. Strong planning and management of teams is important and client-facing experience is a plus. You will have experience in a wide range of skills, techniques and software knowledge. Experience in VFX and Animation for broadcast and print advertising industry areas.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Independently manage and oversee CGI jobs from initial quotation stage through to completion, including client liaison, briefing, scheduling and team management.
  • Animation and VFX – rigging, roto/paint, camera tracking, FX/dynamics
  • Modelling, shader-creation, lighting, rendering and compositing.
  • Managing and checking CGI operator’s work and maintaining quality, give clear and concise briefs and always be willing to offer advice and support.
  • Working with Studio Manager to ensure effective running of the department.

Requirements:

  • 8+ year’s professional experience 3DSMax in broadcast and print media.
  • Experience in a node based compositing package (primarily Fusion, also Shake, Nuke)
  • Good working knowledge of Vray, Mental Ray desirable
  • Knowledge of particles, fluid dynamics desirable (RealFlow)
  • Roto and Keying with Silhouette and motion tracking (PFTrack, Boujou, Commotion)
  • Knowledge of Z-Brush and MotionBuilder desirable
  • An independent problem solver and have an eye for fine detail and realism
  • An interest in Photorealism is essential

MPC is looking for an experienced programmer to work as part of the Systems team supporting an array of in-house tools and libraries. Particular emphasis will be on maintaining and developing MPC’s data management system ‘Shotmanager’. Shotmanager consists of a suite of tools manage and move CGI data through the VFX pipeline. This includes creating projects in a consistent way, load balancing of disk storage, synchronising data between MPC’s worldwide sites, and archiving to tape.

Key Tasks/duties:

  • Work with the Systems, R&D and Pipeline Development teams to support, maintain and develop in-house data management tools.
  • Pro-actively improve features, performance and efficiency of data management tools and respond to feature enhancement requests from users.
  • Provide Shotmanager support and technical expertise to the R&D and Pipeline Development teams to help them resolve end-user problems.
  • Implement test and quality control procedures to ensure software stability, data security, and continuity of 24/7 production schedules.
  • Take responsibility for troubleshooting and resolve any unscheduled downtime.
  • Identify upcoming business requirements, recommend and implement solutions, and provide input for the design of next generation technology.
  • Author both technical and user documentation for all software written.
  • Ensure software written is compliant with MPC programming standards.
  • Mentor junior team members.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong Perl programming skills including DBI, IPC and sockets, large data structures and optimisation tools.
  • Experience of writing Perl services for filesystem operations.
  • Good experience and knowledge of writing applications based around large data sets stored in MySQL or other databases.
  • Knowledge of MySQL servers, MySQL proxies and replication, NFS Storage, Networking (i.e. capacity planning / knowledge of LAN and WAN capabilities / transfer speeds), Veritas Netbackup, Service Oriented Architectures.
