Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Tackling the Compositing of shots effectively.
  • Briefing junior compositors when dividing of shots into tasks (e.g. rotoscoping) is required.
  • Delivering final shots that are creative and technically excellent.
  • Attend daily progress reviews to obtain feedback from supervisors.
  • Work to improve knowledge of MPC’s Compositing pipeline.
  • Work with production to create Compositing schedules and project targets.
  • Work with the Compositing HOD to define the Compositing pipeline required for the show and identify any additions or modifications to our existing toolset required to realise this pipeline.
  • Supervise compositing of CG elements to match live-action footage to maintain consistent shot quality and look.
  • Report on the progress of the lighting work on the show to the Lighting HOD, with particular regard to the following:
  • If the team are meeting deadlines
  • Technical issues
  • Production issues
  • R&D requests
  • Team morale

Requirements:

  • Previous experience with a high-level film based Compositing system using Shake and Nuke.
  • Excellent understanding of techniques and technologies related to CG rendering and compositing.
  • Excellent understanding of the whole digital film pipeline from scanner to film recorder.
  • Proven technical and creative ability in a broadcast or feature-film production environment.
  • General understanding of linux/unix-based operating systems.
  • Ability to take direction and structure working practices so that design changes can be efficiently made.
  • Desire to learn from other and to take on increasingly challenging shots.
  • Excellent team building, communication and problem solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of node-based compositing software
  • Proven technical and creative ability in a large feature-film VFX production environment

MPC is looking to recruit talented artists to join their facility in London.

Overview
Paint/Prep Artists prepare 2D digital plates for compositing. Typical tasks range from wire and rig removal, cleaning greenscreens, through to plate recreation. Artists employ various techniques including compositing, painting, and projecting.
Artists at this level should have flawless and quick rotoscope capabilities. You should understand and evaluate what needs to be rotoscoped, and quality-check your own work. Basic painting and prep skills will start to be refined in this role, and artists will use software packages including Silhouette, Shake, Nuke, Mocha, Photoshop, amongst others. Artists should have a basic understanding of how to properly implement matchmove cameras to help with projecting.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of Nuke and basic knowledge of Unix.
  • Ability to roto in Silhouette, and import tracks from Boujou and other programs
  • Compositing mattes to check paint/prep work, using Shake or Nuke
  • Painting and prep skills in various software packages
  • Working knowledge of projecting for paint/prep tasks
  • A strong eye for detail and precision.
  • Ability to organize your time, collaborate and effectively communicate with your supervisors and team mates, and be able to take direction.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deliver on schedule while working under pressure if required.

As a Senior Lighting / Rendering Specialist, you will focus on developing workflow and rendering solutions for all animation through the visual effects department. You will be involved in many projects at any one time, and so will be proficient in Autodesk Softimage, Mental Ray, and/or RenderMan. Taking part and being on hand in shoots will also fall into your remit.

You will have a high level of ability in 3D lighting and rendering, from simple graphic looks through to fully photo-real simulation. You must have strong experience in self-management and project management within a 3D environment, and will have led small teams of 3D artists whilst developing a track record in being able to support other team members through changes both creatively and technically.

As Sky begins to embrace new, innovative technologies, you will be involved in the development and implementation of Stereoscopic 3DTV visual effects workflow.

You will supervise individual projects and assist in planning staffing and workflow on these projects for both 3D and 2D. Duties will include – project setup, time and resource planning, technical and creative direction, problem solving at a strategic and local level and day-to-day supervision.

Along the way, developing collaborative relationships with Designers, Directors, Creative Directors and all internal departments to ensure visual effects workflow is efficient and produces the level of work expected.

CIS Vancouver is looking for a COMPOSITING SUPERVISOR

CIS Vancouver is actively seeking a Compositing Supervisor to work on upcoming feature film projects.

The Compositing Supervisor is responsible for the management of the compositing team and the quality of the compositing work and overview of the colour continuity on a given show. Working closely with the VFX Supervisor, Digital Colourists, CG Supervisor and the VFX Producer, the Compositing Supervisor communicates and delegates the compositing needs of the show to the team as well as represents the voice of the compositing crew in respect to workload and pipeline environment. The Compositing Supervisor manages both hands-on operation of a workstation as well as administration duties including mentoring artists, monitoring shot progress, monitor show resource usage.

The Compositing Supervisor reviews and reports artist progress to the Head of 2D, with constructive criticism in mind. In addition, the Compositing Supervisor serves as a key front-line representative of the company and frequently deals directly with clients. This direct client interaction requires a highly professional demeanour and diplomacy.

Duties include:

  • Ensure that the quality of the work from the compositing team is of the highest of standards
  • Ensure proper work flow methodology for all artists – mentor the compositing team
  • Develop workflow and pipeline strategies, processes, methodologies, etc.
  • Provide ongoing information and feedback to the Head of 2D regarding issues in the Compositing department
  • Composite with Shake and/or Nuke
  • Work closely with the CG team to ensure proper flow and execution of CG elements for compositing

Competencies:

  • Possess extremely strong technical and leadership capabilities
  • Solid experience in leading and training teams of compositors
  • Excellent artistic skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas

Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of Nuke
  • High level feature film experience in live action films
  • Strong understanding of color correction, blue & green screen, roto, mattes and tracking technologies
  • Guru-level experience in Compositing

This is a full-time contract position requiring periodic overtime, starting in late October/November.

A Hollywood-based leader in premium 3D and stereoscopic VFX for feature films is looking for experienced compositors and TDs for several high profile projects. We’re looking for artists who are not only great at their craft, but are also capable of training, critiquing and mentoring other artists.

Nuke competency is a strong plus in our desired skillset, though individuals highly skilled in other compositing systems will be considered. Candidates skilled in 3D matchmoving, 3D modeling or character animation are also of interest.

Specialized training will commence in October (with the possibility of after hours training for those still working existing contracts). Short and long-term contracts available based on skill and experience.
