The Iterator – Idea for an enhancement to Nuke

So I’m sure we have all had a spot in a script where we need to re do the same task over and over in one chain to get the desired effect.

So I was thinking, and I came up with a way (which would have to be built into nuke) to streamline this scenario.

Attached is an image of a mockup of how it would look in the interface.

Basically, you have two operators. IterationsIn, and IterationsOut.

An image goes into the first input of InterationsIn, and then from there you hook up whatever nodes you want to repeat the set amount of times.

After the nodes, you have IterationsOut, which would refeed it’s resulting image into IterationsIn, until the set amount of repeats has been reached, at which point it spits out a real output.

This obviously goes against Nuke’s top to bottom approach. Since the Out goes up into the In. But I dont think this would cause any infinite loops or anything like that, and programatically it would be the same as pasting clones of the original nodes the set amount of times. They’d simply have to add one exception to the rule that’s there to prevent loops. Since this would have a set number of times to run, it would never create an infinite loop.

I think the hardest thing programatically on this would be getting two different outputs on the bottom Out node. Or in theory it could be the same thing, and not report being done processing to nuke until the set iterations is reached.

Anyways, this is probably an extremely confusing post, but it’d basically be a for loop in nuke. And it should be possible I think. Though I’m sure a bit would have to change behind the scenes to make ti possible. I know it’d be impossible with the current limits put in place on how connections can be made to prevent infinite loops.

If anyone is interested, the project that got this idea going, was the second image I attached. It was nothing but a radial, and the same 3 nodes repeated over and over, about 200 times. (a blur, edge detect, and an alpha to RGB shuffle). Oh, and the color gradient came in Photoshop, but that’s it. I’ve been doing some Chaos Theory themed art recently 😉

Jittering textures in scanline render

Hi all,

On my current project we’re going to do a paint-over for the 3D. We have a FBX scene from 3D with the original render cam, a low-poly mesh and of course the original renders.

I’ve setup a projection scene using an extra camera from a neutral perspective with it’s corresponding 3D render. When I paint within the projection it looks just fine on a still. But when I render a sequence through the animated camera (the actual shot) the texture starts jittering. I’ve tried amping the anti-aliasing settings and adding samples to the motion blur, but it helps only a little… The jitter is visible on a flat (well curved, but no small details or edges) part of the mesh. The output is in 2K, and so is the projected texture (I’ve tried 3K projection, but the result is the same). So far I’ve used Cubic (too blurry) and Rifman (nice on still) filtering, but both give the same result.

Is there any way to get rid of this jitter, any setting I’m missing here…?

Thanks!

Can NUKE roto like this ?

Hi all ,
Ok, I have been at this for 3 hrs and I finally gave up.
I am trying to do a simple Roto subtraction inside a roto.
Please look at Video Example:

What takes 8 seconds in After Effects, has been taking me 3 hrs.
I am stuck on stupid and can’t move forward until I resolve this issue.

Thanks a bunch,
Lou

unlink camera from camera tracker ?

hi guys,

i saw on Frank’s video-about wire rig removal on the foundry channel site–and i did also download the materials/project to make a test–but when Frank did unlink the camera from camera tracker, i couldn’t do follow him–

i can’t find the shorcut to unlink it–do you have any idea about this ?
sorry about my stupidity. and i really appreciate your effort.

cheers

Kit

Film Pipeline in Nuke

Hey Guys,

I am trying to work with 10-bit log .dpx film scans.. and i m not fully aware of the pipeline in nuke.. Is there anything for viewing purpose like there is ‘Film Look’ in Combustion.. Also how and where do we apply a certain pixel aspect ratio.. like i have to work on cinemascope.. the scans so far are pretty much squeezed up..

Thanks in advance..

Scaling 2 point 2d Track ?

Is it possible to scale a 2 point track to give a little parallax movement on the shot ? If yes, can someone please explain how it can be done ?
thanks in advance ..:)

I made a scene collection script for Nuke try 2

This post didn’t seem to go through correctly when I tried to do it before. Maybe because I’m new here and posted links, which looks like spam. not sure. Anyway, I thought I’d post this here for people who use Nuke. It’s a scene collection shell script for OS X/Linux and it even creates a copy of the script with relinked "read" nodes linked to the external files (the untouched original script is also collected):

http://www.vimeo.com/17030922

here it is, if you interested ( http://www.can-con.ca/downloads/nukecollectscript.zip ). It’s on Nukepedia but they didn’t update to the 1.2 one yet, and this is the one with relinking. The contents are pretty straightforward – it’s just using stuff like sed, awk, etc to parse the Nuke file and output a series of copies and stuff. Enjoy.

Up-rez and reformat

I have a comp that was made at 1024×576. I did a crap load of roto and transform animation. Now I need to replace the footage used with a much larger res. 4096×2304. I was hoping to just replace the footage with the higher res copies and then just throw a reformat node at the end of the pipe. But no matter what I do my rotopaints and animation will not up res.

Please help!

keying – garbage mask

I’m trying to create a garbage mask so I can extract the hair out of the background, but when I try to get rid of all the luma keying I did to everything else but the hair the mask won’t invert. any suggestions????

Crowd generation?

Hi,
Can anybody advise how to accomplish crowd creation in Nuke?
I have a handful of keyed subjects, but am unsure how to go about replicating them in an efficient manner.
Any advice?

Thanks in advance.
