3ds Max and Boujou help needed!

Hey all,

I’m a novice in terms of match moving and just want to ask a couple of questions before I get my hands really dirty.
I want to implement a live scene with an actor into a fully cg scene.
At my disposal I have 3ds Max 9, AE CS4 and Boujou 4.
I am very familiar with Max and AE, but alas not in Boujou yet..

The scene has a guy starting off screen. He then runs across and the camera which follows him for about 100 frames. He then goes out of the screen.
I have run the footage through boujou, both after and before editing out the screen. After camera solving there were almost no trackers left. And not a single one that persisted through the scene.

1.First a real noobie question: Should I edit out the green screen first or after camera solving?

2.I have read something about hand tracking. Would this be a solution for me and how would one go about doing it??

3.In 3ds Max how should I best track the camera motion??

Appreciate all replies and help!
Will provide more info if needed..

workflow – object tracking with moving camera

hello,

i want to track an object, shot with a handheld camera and have massive problems to get it right. because of that i really would like to know what a good workflow would be.

the footage is a moving greenscreen with heavy movements. i’d like to implement another animation in this greenscreen, therefore i need to track it in to it. what i tried was to roto the object of intrest and tracked it afterwards. the solve wasn’t really satisfying and i guess the reason is because of the missing greenscreen-environment-relation.

i’ve seen lots of object tracking tutorials but there were all the time based on a static camera. so now i am wondering what the right way of doing this is.

do i need to track the handheld camera movement aswell and substract or add the movements of the object tracking?

thank you for your help,

arrg

EDIT:
I attached a preview of the footage. I am aware of the bad quality of the footage(missing tracking marker, light differences and so on) which makes the whole 3d-tracking-thought almost impossible. i just want to understand the workflow of the object tracking with a moving camera for coming projects.

Boujou and C4D in the end not compatible?

Hello all,
I learned that some of you don’t find Cinema 4D inquirers apropriate for this VFX forum, but I guess people here are using it anyway so I really hope that I can get help to finally sorting out this issue. I haven’t had any luck in other forums and it seem that it’s not only me suffering from this.

The problem is that the matchmove doesn’t line up with my footage inside of C4D. I’m learning Boujou 5 and C4D R11 on a Mac btw.

This is what I do:
After that I’m content with my solve and Scene Geometry adjustments in Boujou I export it as a .c4d.
My export/import settings match my footage in terms of fps, fields etc.

Here, in Export camera, I’m not sure what to set "Scale Scene By", for C4D? I’ve done many tests, starting by leaving it to default.

Opening it in C4D, the 3D point cloud is inside the camera (as many others described this problem before).
I’ve tried the recommendation of grouping all the track points, that comes within the camera, into a Null, and placing it outside the Top Null tree. Then I change the new Nulls coordinates to 0. This enhance the situation – now I can view the point cloud through the exported camera – but it doesn’t line up with my matchmoved video I have as reference on a Background object.
And I’m not talking about a little frame slip here!
Not only the scale but the angle is in miss match.

Anyone?

Pftrack prob.

hey ppl,
i m recently learning PFtrack, but i could not find the solution of one thing. How could we add a primitive at the center of the grid or move it to the center?
Actually i was trying to use the "extract texture" thing for the video, but i couldn’t adjust the primitive as there were no transformation tools over there..
Can somebody plz help..:splat:

Boujou C4D help.

Hey I am trying to export from Boujou and have it set up properly in C4D.

The first problem I am having is that the point cloud does not animate when I bring it in. I know I don’t need the cloud but I know that since it isn’t moving. The camera isn’t as well.

Second. I dont know if my scale is off or something. However I keep messing with it and it changes. But the point cloud is in the far distance compared to where it should be, and when I try and adjust the cameras Zoom nothing happens.

I am using Boujou 5 and Cinema 4d 11.5.

And thank you to all in advance, I really need help as quick as possible.

Learning PFTrack

Hey guys,

I’m trying to develop my matchmoving skills, and I’m playing around with PFTrack. Having found boujou to not only be incredibly ugly to look at, but also really slow solving scenes that really shouldn’t be too taxing computationally, I’m really enjoying it and finding it to be a rewarding experience and a really capable software package.

However, I’m looking for further training resources to expand my knowledge beyond the basic documentation and I’m hoping for suggestions. I’ve heard (from several sources) that the cmiVFX PFTrack tutorials are pretty disappointing so I’m reluctant to go with them, but PFTrack training seems pretty thin on the ground.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Tracking an aircraft… in the air

I was set a challenge today to see if it’s possible to track a piece of footage of a fighter jet and then add in missiles under the wing. So far so simple, but the footage is shot with a long lens with the jet high in the sky doing a simple bank to the left. Nothing passes in the background other than blue sky.
When I track this in Syntheyes using manual placement of trackers (it’s really blurry SD footage) I can get a track that results in a fairly steady motion but not spectacular.
Is this the kind of shot with so little parallax that it won’t track at all or am I missing out a stage?
The issue seems to be that if I solve as a tripod shot I get a crazy high hpix error, or if I solve on automatic the jet stays still and the camera moves and the missile I put in spins in place. Theoretically that last option could work if I could work out the focal length perhaps, but I’m at a loss as to how to work this out. Seems advanced for a novice matchmover.

pf track 2 fusion?

hi guys is there any other way 2 export a pf track camera solve 2 fusion??

pftrack export primitive object in 3dsmax?

i get really a hearth attack the next days, because if i export my tracks with the primitive objects, i wont import them in 3dsmax

i can import the max file with the tracking data and camera, of course i can import the tracking object with his tracking information, but the 3ds.file with the primitive object doesnt work! (improper file format)

i export the scene from pftrack as fbx file that works but i have problems with the timing at the background view (img sequenz)

i really need help please
