How to constraint a bone to a null controller?

I’m trying to make a controller for a bone in my rig in Houdini…. and finding information about this on the web has been futile. Anyone care to help?

Any member from odforce?

i tried to get into membership with odforce.net a houdini community site, but to fail. There is one strange "challenge question" on the registration form, it is "what is the answer to life, universe and every thing?(hint something to do with 40+2)". I have tried with some answers, but its shows wrong. Anybody can help me out please?

convert volumes to surface – VOPS???

Hi all
I am looking to convert a volume field generated in pyro fx to a surface.

The problem I am having is that I end up with a lot of extra info due to number of fields involved. Does anyone know how to use VOPs to strip out only the density field and use that to generate a mesh? I have unsuccessfully tried iso-offset, iso-surface and volume convert

I have included an example file so you can see what the hell I’m talking about

cheers

How much RAM?

How much RAM is required for houdini to run smoothly and what graphics card is suggested?

Thanks in advance!

Animating piston movements ?

hi .. i am trying to animate piston’s of a train along with other parts of the train . Being new to Houdini, I don know how to drive animation like set driven keys in maya. Can you please suggest some blogs or tutorials which can help me out with rigging of the train .. Thanks a lot!

Has anyone tried out Bullet dynamics in houdini?

I’ve been using Bullet solver for houdini and it is really fast compared to RBD solver or ODE, only thing is that I cant manage to get collisions out of imported geometry. I’m importing some maya geo through fbx and slicing it up with voronoi sop and putting that into dops…gravity works , but I cant get the pieces to collide with the ground object.

Maya equivalent motion blur settings

Hi gang, I’ve got a maya-houdini workflow problem. I’m basically lighting, shading, animating and rendering all geometry within maya using MR, and I’m transferring all that geo to houdini for all dynamic effects such as particles, fluids and rbd’s. I’m having a motion blur issue within houdini.

I basically got dust particles coming off the ground under a moving object so I have some particles behind, to the side and in front of the moving object. During rendertime, I’m using the moving object as a matte for the particles just so I dont have to render stuff that is not going to appear in the final render and I’m also setting the motion blur settings I used in maya for the moving object so my object matte has the same motion blur so everything lays down nicely later in nuke.

I noticed that the motion blurred object matte on the particles render does not match the motion blurred object once I composite it. Settings are exactly the same as in mental ray , but it just isn’t lining up..tried different setting settings and testing the comp and still not getting something decent….I’m sure it is an issue of the motion blur algorithm on the renderers….any ideas how this problem can be tackled? BTW…this was my VFX 401 challenge entry that I never finished haha….thought I might as well get it done.

houdini freezes

my houdini opens then it freezes and i doesn’t show any icons just the ui with the names of the tools, but no icons… and its too slow… what should i do????

Destruction with Houdini video trainig

Hi Houdiners!! how are you?
I am just posting this message to let you know that I just uploaded 3 more hours of videos aboout breaking objects ( Now the kit is complete almost 4 Hours ).
http://cardanfx.net/english/titles/h…ed_wall_1.html

We are going to explore some of the different methods of creating scenes ready for RBD Fractured Simulations, we will explore some interesting nodes like the " For each node" , Partition node, RBD glue object, at the same time different options for creation of groups based on attributes, using nodes for user defined selections or simply random, among other things.
