Canon 60D vs canon 600D(t3i)

hi guys, i suppose many of you guys have heard about the those two DSLR, so i have searched in many forums trying to find winch one is the best for shooting video ,cause basically i will be shooting a lot of video…
some places they say that the 600d(t3i) its better cause its cheaper and in has the 10 x digital zoom in video mode but others say that the 60d its a better camera …So i don’t really know winch one to buy…and its that 10 X digital zoom such a big thing ??
can you guys give me a hint?
:thanks:

I need help picking out the best of the best computer components for a multi cpu rig. I want it to be fast, and I want to have great rendering results. How big of a rig can i get? and yes, the computer is going to get built from the ground up. all help is appreciated. 😀

workstation for nuke+3dsmax+fumefx+maya

Hi there

I’m about to switch from mac to a new windows 64bit prof. with the following specs:

Grafikkarten NVIDIA Workstation
PNY Quadro FX 3800
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800, 1024 MB, 256 Bit, PCIe 2.0 x16

CPU Sockel 1155
Intel® Core™ i7-2600
4x 3400 MHz, 4x 256 kByte, 8192 kByte, Sandy Bridge

Solid State Drive 2,5 Zoll SATA
OCZ Vertex 2,5" SSD 60 GB
60 GB, 230 / 135 MB/s, € 1,92*

Festplatten 3,5 Zoll SATA
Samsung HD502HJ 500 GB
500 GB, 8,9/16/7200, € 0,06*, Serial ATA/300
*2

Mainboards Sockel 1155
ASRock P67 Extreme6
Intel® P67 Express, ATX, 3x PCIe 2.0 x16, SLI, Crossfire, 1155

Arbeitsspeicher DDR3-1600
Corsair DIMM 16 GB DDR3-1600 Quad-Kit
16384 MB, CL9 9-9-24, 4, PC3 12800

—-
overall: € 2100

but I’m no hardware expert. I just read some threads and tests and looked up some hardware.
So I’d like to know what’s more important: a lot of ram (16 or better 24gig?) or a awesome graphic-card. this one is specialized for rendering and I read that 3dsmax supports its new technology.

this might be an alternative:

PNY Quadro FX 1800 Retail, DVI, 2x DisplayPort

—-
with this graphic card instead: € 1700

I’m new to 3dsmax, maya and fumefx, but I want to get something I can work with for quite a long time without getting to slow in terms of renderingspeed.

I’d be glad if you guys could give me some advice about that. Sounds this like a good system?

thank you in advance!!

G-tech G-Speed ES Pro RAID problem

Hey guys,

I have a G-Technology G-Speed ES Pro 4 disk 4TB RAID 0 which is connected to my PC via a RAID controller card and miniSAS connector . The machine itself is an Intel Core 2 Quad 2.8GHz, 8GB ram running Windows 7 . The G-Speed ES Pro on paper gets around 400MB/s transfer speed, which a quick benchmark I did confirmed .

Historically I have always rendered out .png (when .exr is not needed) sequences from 3D and comp tools but found when trying to read and write them to the RAID I was not getting any particular performance boost . In fact I noticed on one particularly long render job it was taking longer to write the frames to disk than to render the frames !

On a hunch I thought I would try another format like .tga and immediately I had a very clear increase in speed and was able achieve realtime playback of these images sequences up to 2k . I was never able to do this with .png .

So I am wondering, is there something inherently difficult in working with .png format such as there being a processing bottleneck to deal with the compression ?
Could it be that my stripe size is too big/small ?
Is there another format I should consider such as .sgi ?
Is something else at work here that I haven’t considered ?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated .

Michael

Cam for Nuke comp

Hi All
so here goes my first post !

im after a camcorder to use for recording my own footage for practicing my nuke ( greenscreen, tracking, roto etc) at home as i am currently being taught it at a London studio.
im not looking for anything like a HVX200 ( having used them for years at uni i know there great but well out my use need and price range)
the most i will ever use the footage is practicing, if push comes to shove then maybe a bit in my reel.

i’ve got a budget of £600-£700 at the most.

using the search on the forum, i’ve found alot of talk about the canon’s HF s10 and the HF S100

why do they keep coming up and what others should i be looking at.

Thanks all for the help
Theo

Filming projections

hello all,

I know this is more of a post-production kinda forum, but I thought someone here might be able to help anyway.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest how to get rid of flickering or strange waves of light or bars of colour that appear whenever I try filming projections.
We’re filming on a Canon 5D so its in progressive, and so far we’ve had the same problems whichever input we use on the digital projector. We’ve tried playing around with the shutter speed and with the refresh rate on the computer we’re playing the videos to be projected from but with limited success.
Can anyone help?!

Thanks,
Greg

Montor Not displaying Anything

Hi,
My old graphic card died yesterday so I bought GTX 560.After I install the graphic card and switch the PC ON, everything seems to be running fine but but my monitor is not displaying anything.

What could be the problem.Everything was fine with my old card. The fan died off so the PC would worked well until it gets over heated.

Please Help.

Computer Specs for heavy simulations? (houdini)

Hi,i’m not new to computer graphics, but I am fairly new to whats going on inside your computer.heh. I come from an animation/modelling background.I have recently taken an interest in particle/fluids and would like to take it more seriously.

Right now I have:

Win7-64bit (recently upgraded)
Intel Core 2 duo
6 GB Ram (recently upgraded from 2gb)
Nvidia Gforce 8600 GT graphics card
ASUS P5W Deluxe motherboard.

I was wondering if this is enough to render millions of particles for short student tests ,15secs maybe (apprentice)

If not what should I look into for the future? and with my current specs, what could I do improve performance in the meantime (until I gather money for the real deal)

I know I may need to get a whole new setup in the future,if someone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

I will be using mostly houdini (for particles)

thankyou for your time.

High Temp on phenom 965

i bought a pc with following config.
Pro:-phenom 2 965 x4 3.4Ghz black edition
Mother board:- msi dka 790 gx
RAM:- 4GB kingston DDR3
cab:- cooler master 690.
Graphics card:- ATI ASUS 5850

i am facing some problem with the temprature of cpu.
it idles at 45c to 50c and when i start rendering in maya or after effects, it goes upto 80c – 90c. and it is pretty noisy than my last pc( athlon). the avg temp when i work on maya is about 55c to 65c.

are these temps common? or what could be the problem? i am afraid my pc will get some permanent damage by this. so please can someone advice me on this?

by the way i am a bit new to this hardware stuff so if any detail is missing pls tell me.
