MAC pro or Imac?

Hi guys i am about to purchase my first Mac just because of FCP. i am editor/designer by trade and i would like to know FCP and its lovely apple color correction. i will be using this machine for color correction and rendering with programs such as Cinema 4d After effects and some real flow.

I will be mostly editing in HD and HDV. Should i go with Imac or mac pro. The only reason i am thinking Imac is because of the screen since i cant afford color correction monitors closes thing would be imac screen since is HD. All 3 machines are refurbished from apple store here at my town. How safe is to buy refurbished are those machines older then the new Mac pro how can i tell if ti is 2 year model? How long can machine like this last me before it becomes absolute? Is there major difrance in DDR2 and DDR3

Any advice would help
Thanks guys

Which Mother Suites Best For My config?

This is the configuration I have finilised to buy but I am confused about which motherboard to take???

Here is the config.

Processor : Intel Core i7 920 (2.66ghz)

Ram : 6GB (Gskill)

Hard Disk : 1TB (Seagate)

Graphic Card : Nvidia Geforce GTX 285 1gb

Cabinet : Cooler Master HAF 932

SMPS : corsair 650 watts

Monitor : 22" samsung

I am confused about wheather to take

1.Intel WX58bp (Workstation motherboard) = Very Low Price Compared to others in this list.

2.Intel DX58SO

3.Gigabyte UD6

4.Asus Rampage II

5.Asus Pt6 Deluxe V2

My doubt Is.

Will I have any performance Issues If I go for WX58bp since its low end Workstation Board.

Will I have to use ECC rams only to get the best out of WX58bp.

hardware choice for FFF

I know that this topic has been discussed so many times but I could not something on the net that would settle my mind down.

My first choice:
Dell PowerEdge 6650 4 x Xeon 2.80 Ghz/16 GB DDR SDRAM 2x36GB SCSI RAID 2 *1000 LAN

My second choice:
IBM E-server Xseries 365 4 X procesoare Xeon 3000Mhz 8094Mb Ram, 109.2GB HDD, DVD Drive, FDD, NIC DualEthn, 4 x Num of CPU’s, 3 x O/B ethernet, SCSI Card, 3 x SCSI HD 36.4, 3 x USB Port, Rack, Black, W1

My third choice:
HP Proliant DL 580 G3 Xeon 4 X 3.0 Ghz/ 6GB DDR2 ECC/ 4 x 72 GB SCSI Raid/cd / Rack / Lan 10/1000

My fourth choice:
Hewlett Packard Workstation xw8400 – 2 X Xeon Dual Core 5160 – 3 GHz, SATA (Raid) RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10 – 4 GB Ram, 250 Gb HDD, Combo( DVD&CD-RW) drive, FDD, 10/100/1000 ethernet, SoundOnBoard, 8 x USB Port, 2 X Placa video profesionala Nvidia Qudro nvs285

I know that these are primarily designed to work as a server!!

My question is which will better run (or run at all!) any Autodesk software such as FFF.

Can you advise me on one of these choices or something else. The price difference among the above models are negligible.

Thank you in advance.

Is this a safe wager?

Im also looking for an affordable camcorder that can provide good image quality for matchmoving. I want to get a sony webbie because its good for the price and theres a few other options on the table but theres something else I’m curious about.
Its been said that CMOS chips create too much shutter distortion to get an accurate camera track. But theres a shutter distortion plug in for after effects that fixes this problem. However theres another problem that I wanted to know if this AE plug-in can correct…..

You have to pay close attention to spot this type of thing but it happens when you pan around too fast with some HD cmos cams. The image begins to tile up (not pixelate, Tile). Its when the image starts to chop up into lines and squares.
Heres an example, turn on the HD option…. Watch at 12 seconds when he pans it over to the building’s window, the picture chops up, and this happens a lot with cmoc cams

Would that AE plug in fix this problem too?

Thanks for your time everybody. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Laptop for the down times.

Hi,

I’m looking to get a cheap laptop (under £400) for use at home when I come back from university. Can’t lug home the desktop ever 6 weeks!

Anyhow i don’t expect it to be the best thing in the world or anywhere close to it but i just need something that’ll let me do basic Maya/Nuke/Sillhouette and maybe a tiny bit of photoshop. Generally things in the CG field.

Can anyone recommend anything for me or will they all be equally as good (bad) at this range?

Thanks

New rig for 3D (MAX/Maya) run slow

Hi, just did first render from my new rig, and 3D MAX renders suspiciously slow. But viewport and over all program running lightning fast.
Is there any settings I’m missing?
WIN 7-64, CPU I7 920 at 3.2 GHZ, 12 GB DDR3, ATI FirePro 8700.
When rendering, CPU load is between 15-70%??? Is all render handles by Video card?

thx
