Venus Grotto

One of the first in a grand tradition of virtual realities,  King Ludwig II had this fully synthetic grotto built for him on the premises of the Linderhof Palace (Germany). As rumor has it, he would be rowed  across the lake in his golden swan boat to the blue light rococo cave.

Actual Pain for Spring: “Wildlife”

Our good friend TJ Cowgill, maker of clothing line Actual Pain and leader of the most brutal metal band ever (Book Of Black Earth), has just unveiled his new collection for Spring 09. Made up of blood covered animals with names like “Gore Tiger”, the line stays true to the visual brutality that Actual Pain is known for, while lightening things up a little with some non metal themes that run the gamut from Siegfried and Roy to his feelings on British people. Here’s TJ’s description of “Gore Tiger”:

“SO I’VE BEEN SEEING THE RETURN OF THE CLASSIC 80’S ANIMAL PRINT, AND WANTED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE GENRE IF YOU WILL. THIS IS A HAND SCREENED TEE SHIRT… AN ANALOG MOTHERFUCKING COLOR HALFTONE. THIS WHAT THE OTHER MAGICIAN DREAMS ABOUT WHEN HE SLEEPS AT NIGHT (THE ONE THAT DIDN’T GET HIS FACE RIPPED OFF BY HIS OWN TIGER).”

Verner Panton

Verner Panton was one of the most influential Danish designers of the 20th century. His eccentric style was both innovative and playful, resulting in new uses for familiar materials. His most popular work definitely has a 60’s vibe but his work still holds up as there’s been a resurgence of interest in his work. He used lighting, texture, and a range of materials in a unique and inventive way to create environments and experiences way beyond….Total groovy space capsule psychedelia.

For more, check out the Verner Panton website.  There you’ll find an amazing archive of this prolific futurists life work.

Check out some of the stuff he did for the Bayer Pleasure Boat around 1970.

BLACK LIPS in INDIA on VBS.TV!

theblacklips01

Vice’s continued love affair with the Black Lips has resulted in a 5 part video summation of how their notoriously offensive behaviour gels with India. It’s actually not as offensive as we’d like it to be which might mean that Black Lips are becoming boring old men. Wampers. Oh wait…they just bought liquid codeine. Maybe that will jazz things up.

BOTTIN

It’s not out of order to call something “Italo” if the guy’s actually from Italy, right? Italian based producer Bottin comes through with his latest offering, “No Static”, on stateside based record label, Italians Do It Better. The now well established label– run by New Jersey based selector du jour, Mike Simonetti & Johnny Jewel of Glass Candy/Chromatics fame– finally lives up to its namesake with a tune and accompanying video that’s so “Viva Italia, 1982″, it’s only slightly edged out by Giorgio Moroder’s moustache.

Opening Title Sequence

Check out the new opening title sequence animated by Matt Arnold for a television pilot we have developed. I think he has done a great job with it in After Effects.
