This is pretty damn cool … Nando Costa is putting together a new short film called The New America, where an advanced society experiences structural and financial collapse (good timing), re-emerging with values rooted in nature. Interesting enough on its own, but the extremely unique apsect of the short is that every frame of the movie would be engraved on wood – similar to Nando’s previous wood engraved artwork – and each person sponsoring the film would essentially keep a one-of-a-kind wood frames.

Quayola, a London based artist, has created a new multi-screen video-installation premiering on October 7-9, 2011 at the renowned Palais des Beaux Arts in Lille, France’s second museum after the Louvre, as the opening of their 2011-2012 season. Strata #4 is part of his on-going series of films, prints and site-specific installations for the project devised to challenge accepted perceptions of classical art, architecture and iconography. Quayola strips away outer layers of dramatic symbolism from masterpieces and explores the world beneath their figurative skins.
Quayola is screening Strata #3 in Ottawa tomorrow Sept 21 – 25 at the Ottawa International Animation Festival.
You can watch a great interview of Quayola on The Creators Project and get behind-the-scenes info here.
