I would like to make a 3D Matte painting composite .. I’ve found a tutorial to do the same using Maya.. I would like to know if it is possible in any of the compositing softwares.. Which would be more effective ?

FXPHD
Posted in: Beginners TalkHey everyone, I’m trying to find out what the community honestly thinks of FXPHD. I’m thinking of doing some of their Nuke (and Maya) courses since I’m ready to make a transition from After Effects to a node based compositing package. I took a look at Gnomon but that is way out of my price range and from what I saw the intro to Nuke DVD was a little old. I can pull just over $300 to get some quality training, but I don’t want to throw away that money for something that’s not going to help me. What do you think?

Roto contact shadows?
Posted in: Beginners TalkWhen doing roto of an element that is in contact with the ground, is it a good idea to roto part of the contact shadow of the object resting on the ground? Or do you want to stick to just the object and comp a shadow in later?
see the attached picture for an example of what I mean.

TRACKING 5D FOOTAGE
Posted in: Beginners TalkI’m making a short film based on the video game crysis, I’m using the canon 5D to shoot there is going to be a lot of jarring hand held footage that needs to be tracked. The rolling shutter makes this a NIGHTMARE, my question is has anyone used the FOUNDRY’S (800!!$) rolling shutter plugin.

Intuous 5?

I’v been looking into buy a tablet. From what I’v read online, the Intuos 4, medium size seems to be the best for me. I work with Photoshop, After Effects and Maya, (on mac) I might be mistaken, but would the Intuos 4 be good for me?
My second question is; has anyone heard anything about an Intous 5 coming out? Because I would rather wait, I’m not in a crazy rush to get the Intous 4.

I would like to know which operating system is best suited for vfx work..I mean it should run all compositing applications smoothly..right now i’m using Windows Vista ..I’m thinking of switching over to Windows 7.. Suggestions please …
