Why Motion Designers need to have solidarity with the #VFXProtest

As someone who doesn’t work in the VFX (Film) industry its been hard to follow the #VFXProtest movement. You read one blog and people are arguing over what the problems are. Another blog may feature exchanges over what the solution is or should be (if there is a solution at all).

Either way I do see an overlap in problems within many different industries. Whether that’s in advertising or even game development. Not to mention most of us in “motion design” probably know a few people in LA fighting for their futures right now.

I ran across this post by Bran Dougherty-Johnson on twitter and decided to share it HERE.

For more background on whats going on in the vfx industry read the Wired.com article on it. They did a great job of covering every angle on this and linking to many different sources related to the story.

Giant Ant – Target

Giant Ant deliver some fantastic animation styles once again for Target. “Target came to us with a fairly open brief to make some content for LA Live, an outdoor multi-screen venue in LA. We broke the piece into 5 second chunks using the logo as a transition point and spread them around the office to Matt, Nico, Shawn, Jorge, Jay and to a couple of our favourite collaborators, Phil Borst and Sander van Dijk.”

Consulado Relaunch

To This Day is live!

Over a month ago To This Day project asked animators and motion artists to pitch in to animate one of Shane Koyczan‘s spoken word poems to confront bullying, a lot of you did. And here is the final result.

To This Day is a project based on a spoken word poem written by Shane Koyczan called “To This Day”, to further explore the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual.

Schools and families are in desperate need of proper tools to confront this problem. We can give them a starting point… A message that will have a far reaching and long lasting effect in confronting bullying.

Animators and motion artists brought their unique styles to 20 second segments that will thread into one fluid voice.

This collaborative volunteer effort demonstrates what a community of caring individuals are capable of when they come together. To This Day was Produced by Giant Ant
