Poster of Anil Kapoor’s remake of Bruce Willis’ comic book movie, ‘Red’ revealed

Anil Kapoor has already created a name for himself in bringing big Hollywood shows into the Indian television screens. The first season of the show ‘24’ was well received by the Indian audience, in which Anil Kapoor starred himself. He even acquired the rights for the critically acclaimed series Prison Break.

Shifting his focus from small screen to big, Anil Kapoor got in terms with the makers and will be remaking the 2010 action movie ‘Red’ in Hindi. The movie – jointly produced by Lionsgate and Anil Kapoor’s own production company, AKFC Network – will be the second Indian film in the kitty of Lionsgate after Brothers, which was a remake of Warrior.

Anil Kapoor took to twitter to showcase a poster from the upcoming movie.

The original plot is inspired by a three-issue comic series of the same name which was published in 2003 and 2004 by WildStorm imprint Homage Comics (both owned by DC Comics). It was written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hammer. Although the film was quite different from the comic, it was received by the audience on a decent scale.

NBC also revealed that they were working on a TV series based on the comic book.

The poster has overall red-ish hue to it while the characters are in silhouettes.

The original movie starred John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Karl Urban and Marie-Louise Parker and earned around $90 million revenue in the USA and another $108 million globally.

Speaking on the topic, Anil Kapoor recently said in a statement, “After successfully adapting 24 Season 1 and Season 2, we are looking forward to remaking Red for the Indian audience. This successful movie that boasts of a huge multi-starrer cast is perfect for India as it has all the elements our audience loves: Action, drama and comedy mounted on a huge canvas.”

Here’s the plot of the Red comic series: Paul Moses is a retired agent of the CIA, formerly working in “foreign acquisitions”. Living in a secluded area, his human contacts are limited to pleasant phone calls to his handler (who desires what she believes to have been Moses’ type of work) and letters to a niece who lives in England.

Michael Beesley, the newly politically appointed Director of the CIA, is taken to Room R as part of his initiation, where he learns of Moses’ existence and the full extent of his activities. Disgusted by what he has seen, and fearing public reaction should any of those secrets leak out, he orders the assassination of Moses.

A three man hit-team is sent to Moses’ residence and he kills them, recognizing the pattern of the attack and realizing his death has been sanctioned. He calls his handler only to learn that she has been transferred. He informs the Agency that his status has changed from Green to Red before leaving his house and going on the hunt.

Best selling Australian book series‘Alice-Miranda’ being made into an animated series

SLR Productions in collaboration with ZDF Enterprises has commenced development on an animated series based on ‘Alice-Miranda’, a best-selling and multi-award winning Australian children’s book series from popular author Jacqueline Harvey and published by Penguin Random House.

They will be developing the Alice-Miranda books into a 26 x half hour animated drama-comedy television series which will be aimed at the 6 to 9 year old audience, a demographic that has been extremely successful for the books both domestically and internationally. Australia’s NINE Network will be the local broadcaster.

The 14 part book series has been a success in Australia with 650,000 copies sold locally. Alice-Miranda has also achieved international acclaim with the books being published in over 80 countries including the UK, North America, Indonesia, Turkey and Brazil.

Combining comedy, drama, friendship and mystery, the stories pivot around Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones, an extraordinary young girl who at the age of ten has organised her own early entry into boarding school along with her cheeky pony, Bonaparte.  She’s the youngest girl ever to attend Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale Academy for Proper Young Ladies, a delightful country boarding school with a difference.

“Having seen first-hand how well the Alice Miranda series have been received in Australia and internationally, I am thrilled to see it in the very capable and experienced hands of SLR Productions.  This is a series whose characters and themes will translate perfectly to television and will no doubt bring joy to all its viewers,” said Penguin Random Australia House, senior rights manager, Nerrilee Weir.

Alice-Miranda’s two best friends are Millie and Jacinta, and the boarding school they attend is a dream come true for these young girls.  A home away from home, where they never have to leave their friends and can have all the exciting adventures anyone can dream of; like riding ponies across the emerald green fields, the excitement of camping out in the woods, skiing in the Alps, acting in the school play with a famous celebrity, fabulous midnight feasts, exotic overseas excursions and outings with the Fayle School for Boys. They even experience a brush with Royalty.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be developing this extraordinary book property into a 26 x half hour animation series with our partner ZDF Enterprises and for the local broadcaster to be the NINE Network. This is the first time SLR has optioned a book property under the banner of the newly formed Penguin Random House and it is an honour to be working with the very talented Australian author, Jacqueline Harvey and the publishing team. The Alice Miranda TV series will focus on friendship, fun, mystery and intrigue – all the elements 6 to 9 year olds love,” said SLR Productions, CEO and executive producer, Suzanne Ryan.

“I am so excited to be working with Suzanne and her incredibly talented team at SLR Productions.  It’s a huge thrill to know that Alice-Miranda and her friends are destined to reach an even broader audience around the world via a television series that has the support of ZDF Enterprises,” said Alice-Miranda, series author, Jacqueline Harvey.

Forget ‘Shrek The Third’ as ‘Finding Dory’ grosses $136.2 million; the highest box office opening of an animated movie

Releasing after almost 13 years from its prequel and made with almost double budget, Finding Dory has surpassed the opening weekend box office collection of animated films all time in USA. Released on 17 June across major countries, Finding Dory has managed to beat Shrek The Third’s opening box office collection which grossed $121.6 million in 2007, whereas Finding Dory earned $136.2 million solely in North America.

Seems like finding one’s parents proved beneficial not just for the amnesic Dory but also for Disney Pixar, the studio behind Finding Dory movie. Made with a budget of $200 million, the film has managed to garner $186.2 million worldwide. Its prequel Finding Nemo that sailed in the theatres on May, 2003 was made on a mere budget of $94 million and earned $70.2 million in its opening weekend and went on to garner a worldwide revenue of $936.7 million in 2003.

findingdorytitleThe previous record for a Pixar animated opening belonged to Toy Story 3, which opened to $110 million and went on to gross $415 million in 2010. From its Thursday night preview itself, Finding Dory hauled $9.2 million (Minions had earned $6.2 million) and went on to collect $55.2 million on Friday night in USA.

Whereas in the Indian market, on Friday, Finding Dory earned $0.2 million (Rs 1.42 crores) that surged in the weekend; on Saturday $0.4 million (Rs 2.75 crores) whereas on Sunday it increased to $0.47 million (Rs 3.18 crores). Thus the opening box office collection in India totalled up to $1.08 million (Rs 7.35 crores).

The Ellen DeGeneres (Dory) starrer film bagged $50 million overseas from 29 international markets, including a Pixar-best $17.5 million in China and $7.6 million in Australia. By making such a gigantic splash in the opening weekend itself, we can surely expect Finding Dory to break more box office records because of its appeal to the all age audiences.

What My Dad Thinks I do in College – Sing Bird Sing

In honor of Father’s Day and the end of the school year, I wrote a song giving dads a look into what there kids are actually up to at college.

Download this song for FREE: http://www.facebook.com/SingBirdSingMusic

LYRICS:

9 AM and my son is in class
Learning useful things and having a blast
He could become a doctor, or a lawyer some day
He could change the world with his perfect GPA

9 AM and I’m bored out of my mind
The lectures are so dull that I fall asleep each time
I know I told my dad I would keep on tryin’
But when I said I liked this class, I was surely lyin

CHORUS
This is what my dad thinks I do in college
I’m gettin’ D’s but he think I’m getting knowledge
But please don’t tell my father cuz I don’t want things to change
He thinks I’m responsible so let’s keep it that way

1 PM and he’s in the library
Over books and researching he could forever tarry
He stays there for hours, it’s his favorite place to be
He sits and reads in peace, and studies happily

1 PM and I have to take a nap
I stayed up so late last night I think I’ll skip my class
Besides tonight I wanna go play Frisbee
So I can’t study now I’ve gotta save my energy

CHORUS

12 at night and my son is fast asleep
Dreaming of success and counting many sheep
He knows the importance of getting enough rest
So for his test tomorrow he can do his very best

12 at night and the party’s just begun
We’re gettin’ pretty hungry so we make a fast food run
We hang out with the ladies, waste our minds on TV And After
Three hours more I realize… I have to study!

3 o’clock I cannot stop I’ve got a paper due
4 o’clock I realize I’ve got a project too
5 o’clock I can’t give up I think I’m almost done
At six I finally go to sleep when I can see the sun

8 AM my son’s awake for a new day
Ready for the challenges that will come his way

It’s 10 AM and I think I overslept
That means I missed that morning class I never attended yet

And that is what my dad thinks I do in college!
