Poster of Anil Kapoor’s remake of Bruce Willis’ comic book movie, ‘Red’ revealed

Anil Kapoor has already created a name for himself in bringing big Hollywood shows into the Indian television screens. The first season of the show ‘24’ was well received by the Indian audience, in which Anil Kapoor starred himself. He even acquired the rights for the critically acclaimed series Prison Break.

Shifting his focus from small screen to big, Anil Kapoor got in terms with the makers and will be remaking the 2010 action movie ‘Red’ in Hindi. The movie – jointly produced by Lionsgate and Anil Kapoor’s own production company, AKFC Network – will be the second Indian film in the kitty of Lionsgate after Brothers, which was a remake of Warrior.

Anil Kapoor took to twitter to showcase a poster from the upcoming movie.

The original plot is inspired by a three-issue comic series of the same name which was published in 2003 and 2004 by WildStorm imprint Homage Comics (both owned by DC Comics). It was written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hammer. Although the film was quite different from the comic, it was received by the audience on a decent scale.

NBC also revealed that they were working on a TV series based on the comic book.

The poster has overall red-ish hue to it while the characters are in silhouettes.

The original movie starred John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Karl Urban and Marie-Louise Parker and earned around $90 million revenue in the USA and another $108 million globally.

Speaking on the topic, Anil Kapoor recently said in a statement, “After successfully adapting 24 Season 1 and Season 2, we are looking forward to remaking Red for the Indian audience. This successful movie that boasts of a huge multi-starrer cast is perfect for India as it has all the elements our audience loves: Action, drama and comedy mounted on a huge canvas.”

Here’s the plot of the Red comic series: Paul Moses is a retired agent of the CIA, formerly working in “foreign acquisitions”. Living in a secluded area, his human contacts are limited to pleasant phone calls to his handler (who desires what she believes to have been Moses’ type of work) and letters to a niece who lives in England.

Michael Beesley, the newly politically appointed Director of the CIA, is taken to Room R as part of his initiation, where he learns of Moses’ existence and the full extent of his activities. Disgusted by what he has seen, and fearing public reaction should any of those secrets leak out, he orders the assassination of Moses.

A three man hit-team is sent to Moses’ residence and he kills them, recognizing the pattern of the attack and realizing his death has been sanctioned. He calls his handler only to learn that she has been transferred. He informs the Agency that his status has changed from Green to Red before leaving his house and going on the hunt.
