Travel Channel Little Journeys – Little White Van Man

Winner at the New York Festivals Television and Film Awards 2017. Little Journeys is a series of four 60 second films we made for the Travel Channel. The films are all stop-frame animation with a bit of post-production good stuff here and there when needed. This one is about a Ford Transit van that travels around building sites and DIY scenes getting in the way. Some of it was shot in an actual loft conversion, some was shot in our studio. There was a moment during the making of this film where Fu said to Andrew, ‘Let me take a picture before you move it again. I like to take a picture each time you move it.” That anecdote should be recreated for the thirty year anniversary of these films in 2046. The van is a 1/76 scale model by Oxford Diecast. The little people are made by Prieser. All shot on a Canon 5D Mk 3. The opening and end shots are locked off, whilst all other shots move from left to right to capture the journeyness of it all. We used a motorised Cinetics Cinemoco dolly rail controlled by stop motion software Dragon Frame. The four films reflect four different entertainment genres of the channel’s programming; DIY, Cars and Bikes, Extreme Living and Travel. The films were produced by Perfect Tribe. “These new Travel Channel idents build on the success of the award-winning films we created for the Food Network earlier this year”, says Perfect Tribe Founder and Executive Producer Nikki Bentley. Animation by Andrew and Fu. Sound design by Nigel Manington.
