Fulton Street in Chicago. (www.sarofsky.com) The building is old… Very old. We believe it was built in the late 1800s, probably the 1880s. It even survived the Great Chicago Fire, in that the fire didn’t come quite this far west… But this place is a survivor, nonetheless. In terms of history of the building, we’re still finding out the exact details. But here’s what we think we know. We believe there may have been either a blacksmith or a stable in the location… And during the construction process, we found a couple of old horseshoes buried deep in the foundation, possibly confirming our thinking. Additionally, we had some environmental soil issues due to chemical usage many years ago. Again, information that works with our blacksmith theory. However, right before Sarofsky bought the building, it was owned by RC Phillipine Trading Corp., an importer and distributor of Filipino foods and beverages. The space was mainly occupied by a huge refrigeration unit. We were able to look past that and a plethora of other issues (including a neglected roof, fire damage and foundation problems) to see the potential in this great space. We collaborated with an amazing architect (Olson Kundig out of Seattle : http://www.olsonkundigarchitects.com/) and general contractor… And after about a year of construction work, we’ve finally got an amazing working office and production facility, complete with a (soon-to-be-finishe) shooting cyc, editing/finshing suites and an awesome outdoor courtyard. Everyone at Sarofsky is not only thrilled about the new, cool space… But we are also so proud of and excited about what we have accomplished here.
