Let’s consider the similarities between the “Twin Peaks” character Laura Palmer and Marilyn Monroe: They’re both iconic blondes with sunny exteriors that mask inner struggles, and both met an untimely, tragic death that caused major ripple effects. Coincidence? Not quite. In 1989, producer David Lynch and writer Mark Frost began work on a film based on the diaries of Marilyn Monroe. When that project fell through, the two developed “Twin Peaks,” taking inspiration for the murder of Laura Palmer from the mystery surrounding Monroe’s final, cryptic diary entry.
